OK! Who's Buying Up All The Quiche Round Here!!!!

Real men & their wives love quiche! So! Where it's gone! The shelves are empty!! What is this! 1970's over again? Prawn cocktail, black forest gateau, blue nun! Hold on to what stocks you have it's a war out there! ATB.

Maybe it is just practising for next year?

in reply toPMRpro

Well that's a tough one! You mean it's going to get hotter for ever & quiche will become like bitcoin!

Well it might. Or they'll be stuck in queues for Customs...

Very impressed Rosebud. No proper cooks in this household.

Don't need to be a proper cook for quiche - buy ready-made pastry, the filling is just diced cooked bacon on the base and eggs and cream beaten up and poured over (bacon gives the salt, maybe a bit of pepper and nutmeg). It'll rise and look beautiful in the oven and taste better than anything from a shop! Or replace the bacon with cheese, seafood, veggies... Yum!

If you want to be fancy you can bake the case first - but I never bothered.

You mean you don't add wine! Sounds delicious though! Think I'll stick to the DIY & garden. I may create a dangerous precedent!

Suppose you COULD add a drop of white wine - I'm all for experimentation in cookery! Not sure if it would curdle the cream though...

I would definitely DRINK a glass of wine with it though ;-)

Now my cheat is out , always use shop bought pastry but I use yogurt instead of cream x

Found recipes the other day suggesting using Skyr instead of yoghurt - have you come across that? No fat, lower carbs and higher protein than yogs.

I have made it with Skyr and it works well x

All I can think about now is quiche, it’s all I want .

in reply toChrob

Mmmmmmmmmmmm, quiche!

in reply to

Steady! Find a quiet space! Think on the moment. No quiche! No quiche! No quiche!

in reply toChrob

That crunchy soft pastry with it's succulent salty mixture. Oh! The fantasy of it!

I have a great recipe for quiche. So easy. Making it tomorrow.

in reply toFootfairy-1

I have a feeling this would go pear shaped for ourselves but put it out there before the riots start!!

Why not try making Fritata. Like quiche but without the pastry carbs.

in reply toValnvaughan

Just looked that up Vainvaughan it looks more manageable. Ta.

Just make your own! I know what you're going to say - but you don't know what your missing!! You can even buy the pastry if you're that way inclined!

in reply toTelian

Ha! I can imagine the mess now & all that washing up!! Saved late yesterday afternoon by the Co-op. They had 4 left. Buy 3 for the price of 2. Once I'd done the maths it was a steal deal! Close call though! Desperate quiche hunters were streaming through the doors as I was on my way out. Couldn't resist a snigger as I made it to the car!

There's more mess if you make the pastry admitted BUT you will never buy another once you've tried it! Morrisons do a family sized one off the deli, £4, - choice of cheese 'n' onion too! The nearest you'll get to home baked, and they are lovely, not that I bought one mind - someone told me!!

You were pleased with your buy I see - good on yer! Hope you enjoyed the Co-op ones?

in reply toTelian

All cheese & onion. Seem to freeze ok too. Only had the one yesterday between us, With runner beans of course! Yes the deli Morrison is very tasty.

Simple answer

Make your own

Sounds great but I've always avoided them because of the pastry! You can have my allotted allowance Pepperdoggie.

Please explain what you are talking about??? As far as quiche goes why can’t you make your own!

in reply toStella3

Sorry Stella. I've regressed to the early 1950's instead of being in the 70's. We used to have food allowances or coupons I believe then. But! Hey give me a break! how many more jobs can I do with this illness! Hope you're doing ok yourself. ATB

Hi Pepperdoggie, oh yess I remember those ration coupons, having been born in 1944....never saw a banana etc. etc. Didn’t mean to seem so harsh, of course buy as many quiches as you want, I might buy some myself. I completely understand. I hope you conquer this “thing”. We’re all in it together....take care of yourself!

in reply toStella3

It's just Brummie droll humour Stella3. Helps me get through. Now! Conquer & conker! That's an interesting one!

You’re mad, the lot of you. Mad, I tell you, mad....... oooh it’s the heat.

Actually, quiche is a good idea this weather coz you can eat it hot or cold. And the Co-op’s aren’t bad are they but not as good as homemade.

Currently using up a surplus of courgettes making chutney. Lovely recipe off the net but the chilli content does give quite a kick.

Keep up the good work dear fellow sufferers. You make me smile when I’m down, support me when I’m confused and I’m so glad you’re all there.
