Having just got over a chest infection, a bout of breathlessness followed, to the point that I felt, yesterday, as though my next would be my last. The humidity wrecks me as well. Dr said viral infection. Didn't want to up Pred again. Nurse had put me up to 30mg for 5 days. He said to use my nebuliser and inhalers. I also take carbocisteine for the COPD. Today, in a letter from the Endo Consultant, he says that the result of my blood test shows mild deterioration in kidney function with creatinine 150 compared to 113 in Sept. He says the level of creatinine has been fluctuating over the past 2 to 3 years, but for further reassurance, he wants an immediate blood test...same as before..to be repeated. Got appt tomorrow. Many years ago, I saw a nephrologist, who said my kidneys were only functioning at 35% i.o. 90. Nothing was done, and now this. I googled what this result means, and shortness of breath appeared. Hooray!....not. My mind is in over-drive. Am I wrong in thinking the worst?

Um - aren't your adrenals shot? You need more corticosteroid whether it is a viral, bacterial or little green aliens that is causing the infection!
You mean you had less than 50% renal function when you were much younger and no-one investigated why?
I don't think you are ready for 6 ft under yet (my definition of the worst) but a bit of medical attention seems called for.
Not when 'much younger'. In this country about 10 years ago.I don't know why not followed up. My thinking abilities have gone AWOL. I thought with the AD, gp would've said to double present 7mg dose, at the very least.I had that blood test, at the hospital same day as Endo appt...8 May, and get result today, 31 May. So. just when you think all MUST be ok, then WHAM!
Maybe I'll do it'my way'... Increase pred to 15 or 20mg. Ring Endo.
10 years ago is "much younger" in this context.
Sounds like a plan...
See what I mean about the thinking........ of course 10 years is much younger...
Hi karools16
I really have no help in term of what it means but you obviously feel rough with a viral infections and yes the humidity is horrid. My dad had copd and also struggled with humidity etc. Hopefully someone will have good info for you. Lots of rest I would think. We need a nice breeze or storm to clear that air.🌻
"We need a nice breeze or storm to clear that air."
Don't think it works with the sort of airstream that is bringing it. We've had a storm/storm wind every day for a week - and still the thunder keeps coming...
Thanks. Rest doesn't get things done. Am behind in everything. Here, on N.Norfolk coast, we had huge thunderstorm Tuesday night. Put head under duvet as lightning filled the room. More forecast tonight.
I was up with one on Saturday night crash bang walloping. The other 3 family members never heard it!!
Hope everything is behind soon.
It must be so hard to keep calm and not let your mind run ahead of events and yet that is what you must do karools for the sake of your wellbeing. Sometimes Google is our friend, other times not so much.
Everyone here has your back and is wishing you a good outcome. Just take a day or even an hour at a time for now and take our love with you when you go for your tests and tell us what is happening. 🌸
Thanks SJ. NOT MAKING ANY HEADWAY, HEALTH-WISE, GETS TO ME AND THEN I HAVE A PITY PARTY. Well, am off to see Mr. Lidl now.Had to cancel hair yesterday. LOOKING and FEELING crap...think I'll take it out on some housework later. News says flooding and storms soon.
How are you feeling now Karools16?
Can ask that question now as I don't get my HU email until hours after everyone else..18 to be precise today
My HU emails appear to be ok now. I remember SJ saying there was problem with the site. How am I? Hmmm. When my dr said I looked a bit pale around the gills...his words, I thought.. Heck, not enough make-up.Today, after my blood test, I met 2 friends for lunch, and intended going to B &Q AFTER, BUT, WHEN WE WERE LEAVING, I felt as though I just had to get home, 8 min walk away. Lift offered, but the Endo letter came to mind, and I needed 'space'. I took 15mg Pred today.I feel a bit disorientated. Thanks for asking.
Mmm it's all par for the course as they say, you did well to 'follow advice' even though you had to up the pred today - tomorrow's another day so hope you feel better then. Funny about the disorientation, I had that yesterday following a spell in A&E with no 3 son the night before, got home 12.20am and I didn't think it was a big deal but then, as already mentioned, that happened. The body just doesn't like any kind of change/stress does it? Hope you start to feel a little better, wishing you all the best.
