Taking Prednisone twice a day

I am on 8 milligrams of Prednisone. I was waking up very stiff in the morning so my doctor told me to take 5 in the morning and 3 in the evening. It seems to work but have not heard of anyone else doing this?

There are a lot of people on the 3 forums who spilt their dose - and we often suggest trying it when people find they can't go the 24 hours without being very uncomfortable.

I had exactly that same problem, stiff as a board in the morning (and then concerned that the pred was not doing its thing, or that I was going backwards). I did exactly the same split - 5 in the am, 3 at about 8pm at night - seems to be working nicely. For the reductions that I hope to carry on with I plan to get them even, 3 and 3, by reducing the morning one by 0.5mg per week and then alternate by reducing am and pm week and week about. Lets see how far I go with that!! Good news is the stiffness is mostly gone and I am operating really well on this system.

I did forget one night - could I suggest not doing that - it really hurt the next day!!

It works, doesn't it! I split in exactly the same way, 3mg before bed, 5mg around 6a.m. both coated. I was on 7mg but a bit stressy at the moment - I also have a supply of 1mg uncoated and will add 0.5mg to morning dose, reducing the evening one to 2mg. as I go back down.

We need a pred abacus to do all the calculations :-)

P.S. Or simply take 2.5mg evening - der, brain fog...

I split mine too and in my case it definitely makes me a little more comfortable.

I did this all along and still do because I was waking up stiff. I was doing 5 in the morning and 3 at night. Since I'm reducing I now I do 5 in the morning and 2.50 at night.
