PMR and Vertigo

Over the past four days I have developed vertigo, which would be NO fu if it wasn't accompanied by nausea.

I have GCA as well, and wondered if anyone out there has any advice for me. I have read that BPPV (Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) can accompany PMR and GCA.

So much to learn. Every day is an adventure.

Thanks in advance,

Yes, it can be horrible. Is this the first time? It may just be a virally triggered labyrinthitis. Either way, a doc should check the cause and they can give you an effective medication, similar to some travel sickness meds. Or you could speak to a pharmacist and they may recommend trying one if you can't get to a doctor before Monday, but I would seek advice in any case.

Hmmm - what the single small study really says is that the ischaemic cause of GCA may also be the cause of BPPV. It is felt to be a very weak link:

"Because most clinical manifestations in GCA are caused by ischemic complications, our results suggest an ischemic etiology as responsible for BPPV in these elderly patients. According to these results, GCA may constitute a new association with BPPV."

But there has been a study about ear symptoms and GCA:

If you live in the UK do please get in touch with them. They are getting to the end of the period, end of November I believe.

Hi,

Please get it checked in case it labyrinthitis - I suffered with that long before GCA came along, and it's horrible - dread to think what the two together are like.

Yes, I've been suffering from this for a few weeks now and was prescribed betahistane dihydrochloride - which I believe is also used for travel sickness. I have GCA and have just completed the form for the research into connections between the two conditions. My vertigo - which was accompanied by tinnitus - is lessening a little now and I'm beginning to regain some confidence after a couple of falls. But it's certainly a horrible sensation. My pharmacist recommended eating beetroot - so I've been drinking beetroot juice which may have helped.
