Had my first treatment of Bowen Therapy last week and not sure what to make of it. Didn't notice any difference in pain or stiffness. Therapist admitted she hasn't done many treatments and has not dealt with PMR. I'm keeping an open mind on this and have my next treatment on Thurs. Can't claim this under our health plan (Canada) so hoping that this is money well spent. Any comments?
Bowen Therapy: Had my first treatment of Bowen... - PMRGCAuk
Bowen Therapy
Hi
I had Bowen and thought it was brilliant
If they have not done many treatments maybe their not experienced enough
Bowen will go on working its not a miracle treatment so give it a chance
We are all different so keep a open mind and see how you are say in a months time
I think the consensus of opinion is it takes at least 3 sessions before you know whether it's going to work or not.
I had 5 sessions, but they did nothing for me - but as my problem now (and when I had them done ) is arthritis I can't really comment of usefulness with PMR.
I couldn't claim either, and although the massaging side was very pleasant and I felt good afterwards, it did nothing for the pain, so I felt I couldn't justify the cost!
Like most things, if you don't try, you won't know!
Remember to drink at least 1 litre of water that day and for at least two days after.
I was told (but don't quote me) that cytokines collect like little balls and the plan is to break them down and flush them out. So extra water is essential.
Joanne, my Bowen person, is a registered practioner and teacher and Bowen is available via the NHS Pain Clinic located in Durham - the contract was for a one year trial and has been extended to two years.
Fingers crossed for you.
Thanks. This practioner is not registered but the only one I could find who gave Bowen Therapy.
I live in B.C.
Did you use this site to search for a registered trained practioner? However as BC is huge, perhaps you did and there was not one.
If you live near the border of the next state...............just a thought and you could always contact the hq direct..
No I did not. We live ,250 miles north east of Vancouver BC Canada so not many trained therapists here. I found this one through my physiotherapist.
Thanks for the info on the registry. Found one more in Kamloops.
Kamloops, what an intriguing name and perhaps the Bowen person in Kamloops proves as intriguing and moreover can work the 'white' witchcraft on you.
I'm sure there is someone else in Kamloops - or maybe I'm hallucinating...
I recall the Bowen experience left me feeling less depressed. It did not alleviate the pain, but my overall end result was brighter mood, and a happier outlook.
I advocate for all the comfort treatments we can find. Among those are chiropractor, acupuncture, Bowen therapy, , general massage, meditation, anti-depressants, etc.
Each of us decides whether the treatment eases our discomfort. If it does not give relief, we are under no obligation to finish a series of treatments. It's ok to stop.... no one will judge. Totally a subjective experience.
Good wishes, Jerri
Meant to ask, where in Canada?
I have had tremendous help from Bowen, but I suspect it may depend on the practitioner. Like acupuncture, not everyone and every condition will benefit.
In addition to plenty of water, my practitioner tells me that I should refrain from long hot baths for at least 3 days after treatment. If I want to have a bath the water should be no higher than blood temperature.
Have just had a Bowen session this morning. My back and shoulders were extremely stiff and painful, so much so that I had to sit on someone's wall on the way there. My back is now much looser, although still in some pain. I know that this will diminish with rest, and yes, lots of water. My husband also swears by Bowen. He had some shoulder problem some months ago and could not lift his arm to put on his deodorant!! He came In from the treatment and triumphantly showed me how high he could now raise his arm. Good luck with yours. I hope it works as well for you.
Your husband's result sounds encouraging. Will have my 3rd session next week - still hoping for some improvement from stiffness.
