Taking care of the "inner animal"

I have had PMR for about 18 months and read all the posts almost daily. It seems to me that most fall into one of two categories-dosing/reducing or how to take care of ourselves. I don't feel I can add anything in the way of medical information as some do so brilliantly but I can pass on something that I just read that has been a great help to me. Most of us seem to take excellent care of those around us (or did until we couldn't anymore) but struggle taking care of ourselves. It maybe helpful to think about the small inner animal that lives inside of you. Imagine that you have adopted an abandoned puppy or kitten ( or rabbit!). It probably hasn't had the best of care and needs love, kindness and attention. Maybe it is even sick from some untreated illness. How would you treat that pet? Force it walk a great distance? Wake it when it wanted to sleep? Tell it that it was a miserable pet because it wasn't like the neighbors nice animals? (hits home doesn't it) So please friends let's not drive ourselves into more sickness but slow down and treat our "inner animal" with love and attention. Wishing you well, Bunnymom

Hi,

Good advice!

Keep nuturing your "inner animal" until it's ready to move on.

What a lovely analogy...it really helps to give ourselves permission to take care of ourselves as we would take care of others. ❤️🙏🏼❤️

I read on this site once about PMR being like having an untamed gorilla to deal with. This has helped me and my close family a great deal. I am only expected to do what my gorilla will allow, I never force him to exert himself !

I like this analogy! As a cat-groomer (re-trained after stress of previous job) I'm imagining a pretty little kitty.

Hi what a great analogy, I run a boarding cattery and rabbits n Guinea pigs. Plus look after my own pets. This really hit the nail on the head. I will certainly take heed now.

I had to refuse the inlaws visit over this coming august bank holiday. I'm sure they think cos I'm home all day it's ok to stay. But since I joined this wonderful site , last year, I've gained much information and experience from all you lovely people and now I have confidence to day no.!! And no feel bad xx

Thank you all so much

Carole

Ps I like your gorilla too jack oh
