Pmr and arthritis

I have had pmr for 4 years. Currently using 6 mg prednisone. Recently, an MRI revealed arthritis in my spine. The doc said My Pmr contributed to the condition.

I was prescribed celecoxib for the arthritis, in addition to my regular prednisone.

Has anyone else found themselves here? How did you manage?

Hi Purple crow,

Sorry to hear you have arthritis in your spine. I will be interested to see what the others say, I have confirmed arthritis in knees and shoulders following xrays, and also feel a similar pain in my lower back but the GP says it is 'most probably ' arthritis' as well. He also said the Pred would have contributed to this .......

Lets see what the clever people say

About a month after PMR diagnosis I started having pain in one shoulder and arm and also pain in my ribcage. I assumed this was part of PMR and it influenced my reductions. After a year of 8 Drs and physical therapy twice (which was torment) I was diagnosed with a bulging disc in my neck (shoulder and arm pain) and osteoarthritis in my upper spine (rib cage pain). I went to an Ortho Pain dr and got two epidurals with cortisone in both places. Pain has gone but he didn't know for how long. Doing that I have a much better handle on my PMR pain now. Before the shots I was taking gabapentin, which is for nerve pain. I got it from a Rhuemy at the very beginning of my journey when I was having what felt like swelling in two fingers. I have no side effects from it. I continue to take as I don't want to rock the boat as I continue to reduce. I also take maximum strength Tylenol 3 times a day and it makes all the difference. I now have something happening with my heel (a bone spur I believe) and the side of my knee has some kind of nerve pain. I see the Dr tomorrow for something else so will ask. I do believe that PMR sets off a whole chain of events in our bodies that medical science doesn't recognise. Best wishes to you.
