Hi everyone, I have to go get an abscess tooth pulled and was wondering if I need to tell the dentist that I am on 30mg of prednisone. Thanks in advance. 😊

Hi there...yes definitely. In fact my dentist always asks on every visit now what dose of Pred I'm on.

Ok thank you. 😊 Does it make a person bleed more?

No not usually but healing can be slower, it's more about the 'stress' on your body. That's why sometimes your advised to increase your dose beforehand.

I always have a spare strip of 5mgs in my 'Red Meds Bag' which l always have with me.

Take Care πŸ’

Yes, it is very important that you let your dentist know about the Prednisone. I am sorry that you have the infection. I pray you will soon be feeling much better. πŸ˜πŸŒ»πŸŒ…

Thank you so much.

Yes, it is very important as certain dental procedures cannot be carried out without knowing that information and some have to be modified. My dentist has a list of all medication I take and asks every visit if anything has changed.

Definitely advise your dentist of your medication/dosage, eg Prednisolone and Alendronic acid if you are on that. My dentist asks me about my health and if on any medication. This year while being injected before having a filling a nerve was damaged and it took about 4 months for the full sensation to return to one side of my tongue. Recovery from all kinds of things seems to take that much longer.

Oh wow that's awful! Glad the feeling came back for you.

my wife would love that to happen to me.

Hi

Always inform anyone who is going to perform any Medical Procedure on you and particularly your Dentist.

Mine has a full list of my Meds & checks it out each visit.

Hope you feel better soon πŸ’

Yes I believe it is a good idea to let your dentist know what medications you are taking.

It's been said above, so act on this advice pls. I've had (unfortunately) been in the same position as you and I've had to increase my Pred dose by 5mg the day before, on the day. For me no added bleeding, but obviously lots of salty mouth washes afterwards. Hope all goes well, it's a miserable thing to have done, I know.

It just goes to show how good this excellent contact group is and particularly all that dwell in her and the help that is given - a week later, today, I am off to the Dentist to have a tooth pulled- with an abscess under! feel happier now, well sort of. -have a lot of soreness in the roof of the mouth near-skin broken and smarts , painful to eat- I am now on 10mg-also suffering some after effects of Spine OP 0n 23rd Sept but think I am now round the corner- or is it the BEND.................Thanks all πŸ’ - John 😊

There's always someone who's walked that pathway before & it's good to know there's always someone to ask.

Good Luck with your tooth extraction Hidden πŸ€πŸ€

Yes, as above! But also, if you are on alendronic acid with the Pred make sure you tell them that too. Hope all goes well.

Yes - my dentist insists on knowing what drugs I'm on every visit. He will only do normal dental procedures on me whilst being treated for GCA but if a tooth needs pulling he says he'll have to refer me to the local hospital rather than do it himself. It makes sense to tell any medical practitioner about what drugs you're on prior to any procedure.

Absolutely, you should really show then your blue steroid card detailing drug and dosage. hope it's soon feeling better

One of the reasons you have to carry a Blue Steroid Alert card.

And one of the reasons we produced for our members and anyone who wanted to purchase one, a Steroid Record Medication Booklet and Alert Card, as we found we needed more information as most of us are also on other meds. The booklet can last up to two years and can also be signed off by the person with the date & new dosage when they change your medication.

Although I am in remission, I still use it for Warfarin, Beta Blockers et al. I find it very useful.

You should always tell ANY healthcare practitioner you are taking pred - and any other medication if it comes to that. You should carry a steroid card that warns of your history of steroid use and the doses - in case you are taken ill or in an accident and unable to tell them. It is dangerous to then miss your pred dose.

Tell your dentist if you're on biphosphonates for your bones as they have been linked to breakdown of the jawbone following dental surgery such as extractions. My dentist said for treatment beyond simple care such as fillings, he would send me to a larger centre where they were more equipped to deal with complications should they arise.

Cheers
