I am down to 3.5mg of pred and was just in the process of reducing once again. I have had a reaction after eating fresh pineapple in both hands, wrists and knees. Has anybody else had this problem after eating fresh pineapple.
Best regards

You don't think it might possibly be coincidence? There is a substance in pineapple that is supposed to be anti-inflammatory and good for arthritis pain!
That's exactly what I THOUGHT. Then I realised not everything written by doctors and researchers strictly working in their research lab does not consider as to how human tissues/immunity (with our own unique DNAs) responds to what they believed/thought to be anti-inflammatory. I also read statin was highly recommended for rheumatic patients as a potent anti-inflammatory in studies and GP told me this, too.
YOU ARE SO RIGHT! Everything is marketing when it comes to selling items to people who suffer from rheumatic conditions. Having said that those studies were carried out and published in most respectable medical journals. As I said, GP told me first. So it must be a mainstream study.
If I manage to find the article(s), you would be the first one to know. I used to have more interest in these things in the past, not lately. I got statin prescribed, too, as a trial.
I don't have arthritis, because I've been tested. It's definitely PMR related, every time I eat raw pineapple, the same thing happens. Pain in both hands, wrists and knees. If I have cooked pineapple, I don't have any reaction.
Are you a caucasian/English descent if you don't mind me asking this? Please ignore if you do not feel comfortable, of course. You might be reacting to the particular enzyme. This is more common amongst certain ethnic groups. Pineapples do have the high fructose content (e.g. fruit sugar), too. Could be reacting to sugar.
The bromelain in pineapple is supposed to be anti inflammatory and good for arthritis. It also breaks down protein and is used in meat tenderizers. I get a sore tongue when I eat it, but if I avoid the core of the fruit it seems better. As for sore hands, etc. I do not have the answer. Cooked pineapple sounds good...how about making it into a salsa?
Not pineapple but wine, so dry January continues. I can only think the acidity or maybe an allergy peculiar to you. I think we become hyper- aware of what affects our bodies. No bad thing maybe?
No not heard of that one, I was told to avoid eating pineapple as I have steroid induced type II diabetes and it's got too much sugar in it. Do let us know any results.
Speaking of Pizza, it is also known to be not too good in the rheumatic condition, particularly if your gut is also affected. Not sure, but it could be something to do with simple carbo/highly refined wheat & tomato sauce. Having said that someone's poison could be someone else's medicine.
I don't eat ordinary wheat any more than I can help - but we have spelt and kamut bread and our pizzeria in the village does 80% spelt pizza. The previous pizza chef used to make me 100% spelt but I haven't opened negotiations with the new guy - my Italian isn't up to that and I don't know how he scoes on German...
