Hiya,

I would be inclined to take tomorrow's dose as normal. If you miss the morning's tablets you may find you have problems later in the day. As you're only only on 7mg a day you should be okay. I took 3 doses over 2 days when I was on a long haul flight with no adverse effect.

Might be an idea to get a pill box, then you won't get in a muddle - easy to do if you have a lot of tablets.

Thankyou Dorset lady for your swift reply never happened before but lots of

Family stress at the moment but probably a pill box is the answer.

Many thanks

Val

Know what you mean, it doesn't take much to throw everything out of kilter, and if you're stressed the extra Pred won't do any harm at all. You should be able to get a pill box from Boots - other chemists are available!

Take care.

Hi. Happy New Year. And, of course I have a question. I’m tapering from 7.5mg to 7, using dsns, but after a hectic new year, I think I’m having a flare. My initial pains are back in my thighs, very sore. I took 2.5 mg last night as an extra, and 8.5 mg early this morning. However, I’m not sure that that is enough to get rid of the flare as I’m still sore. What is your advice, please? And for how long does a flare usually last? This is my first hiccup since having polymyalgia in Oct 17.

Thank you, Sue

Hi

Sorry to hear that- I would try 10mg for the next few days - maybe until the weekend. Hopefully that should be enough if you’ve caught it quickly. If it is, and you feel okay then you can probably drop back down - say 9mg for a week, then 8mg for a week, then go back to the DSNS.

As for how long does a flare last - until you’ve got it back under control😉.

If you find that 10mg doesn’t sort it, you might need to go slightly higher - hope not!

Whatever let me know please - and good luck.

Thank you for your quick reply, will do that and let you know. I had mistakenly thought that I was immune to flares and that polymyalgia was not so bad, but been brought up sharply after this flare and will respect it more.

Sue.

Christmas is a difficult time - as is winter in general - so don’t think it’s your fault! Some wiser Rheumies advise no tapering during winter months!

Dorset Lady is right just carry on as normal, you are not the first person to make that mistake, you should have a really good day. What you should avoid doing is forgetting to take the pred altogether, you will never do it a second time, having said that I did, but a third time is definitely out.

You have several choices.... first of all taking an extra dose will do no harm.... however it will be interesting to see how you respond to the extra dose.... I would just go back to my regular schedule the next day. If you decide to skip a dose on the next day again it would be interesting to see how you respond. Some tapering schedules have tried to do this whereby you would take double the dose one day and none the next day As I get down to below 5 milligrams per day I have been thinking of doubling up on odd days and taking no Prednisone the next day. The idea behind this type of schedule is to nudge your adrenal glands to become activated a bit sooner on the "non-prednisone" days.... in this regard input from an endocrinologist might be useful.... unfortunately, there is so much conflicting opinions and variations on prednisone and prednisolone tapering that it's easy to become confused. Bottom line is don't worry about an extra dose of prednisolone on any given day or a missed dose on any given day.

Your right on feeling a bit better and dos sett box ordered!!!

Hi, we’ve all done something similar but as DL says don’t miss tomorrow dose, just carry on as normal.

A Pill Box is a good idea & try to fill it when you’re not distracted.

Best Wishes
