Any thoughts on dental implants? 10 days after my second dental implant nearly 2 years ago I was so ill. Fever, tingling in face, pain under shoulder blades. Saw 4 doctors in as many days. Hospital A & E after a week. By then fever settling down but low pulse rate. Some "type of virus" apparently.

Over next 2 years fatigue, shingles 3 times in as many months. Slept my way around California June/July last year: as soon as I sat in the car I was out to it.

Early January this year I was very lucky to not lose my sight after presenting at the Tauranga Eye Clinic (New Zealand) after seeing rainbows and showing a fixed, dilated L pupil and swollen optic disc. Had been experiencing sore eyes but put it down to overuse of the IPad! Put on prednisone and diagnosed with GCA (of course biopsy was negative after 2 weeks on prednisone 80 mum daily.

I have since learned that my husband's late grandmother had GCA. She did go blind but I do take comfort from the fact that she celebrated her 100th birthday before she died. I am waiting to see a rheumatologist in 2 weeks. My GP is fantastic.

Thankfully a bone scan before Christmas was 100%. Also, quit fructose 2 years ago and have been following LCHF for past year I do have a rather fetching moon face ( just filling in the wrinkles, thank you!) no weight gain: 52 kg at present. 68 year old woman, 5 ft tall.

Someone on another forum with PMR was about to HAVE implants last year! No idea how she fared though.

In my book that was far too closely aligned to be ruled out as coincidence! But I have a very suspicious mind. I have to say - I'm quite glad that my teeth are still pretty good (as far as I know) but it'd have to be wallies (Scottish false teeth) if they weren't as I would (could) NOT pay what implants cost here!

I also have to say - I'd love to be the same weight as you since I'm barely taller. But I can give you nearly 20kg still despite low carbs having brought about a 19kg loss from my maximum on pred. That was not nice at all.

Try Low Carb High Fat. How we fed our kids in the 70s. It was never the butter: blame sugar (fructose) and bread. Modern wheat to be avoided at all cost. Seed oils give you cancer and sugar feeds those cancers. website: Ditch those Carbs. I didn't really intend to lose 15 kg so quickly but am happy to be a fat burner, not a sugar burner. My husband is on board; never hungry. Breakfast: 2 rashers streaky bacon, 2 eggs and half an avocado. Large chunk of grass fed butter compulsory! Small lunch: cup of tea (avoid homogenised milk) nut, double cream Brie, Apple. Dinner: Meat, Veg and fat. Listen to your stomach. Grab video: That Sugar Film. Books: The Fat Revolution, Big Fat Lies, I quit sugar.

You'd struggle to get much lower carb than I eat! Probably well under 50g utilisable carbs - and that mainly veg and salad. Could maybe add a bit of fat. I love a slice of butter - thought it was just me!

All our meat is grass fed and local milk/butter off the mountains. NO sugar, no wheat, I'm allergic to something in it and it has to be something VERY good to think that's worth itching for! I'm never hungry either.

High fat is vital, moderate protein, low carb ( non refined. We were sold a lemon with " low fat". Never saw fat kids 30-40 years ago. Have just received Prof Tim Noakes' book: Feeding Superheroes ( for my suspicious grandchildren!) 🍶❤️

We drink milk from the cow shed. Our local New Zealand butter only $3 NZ at Countdown. Fonterra could do so much more to promote! Don't go near that white, greasy, grain fed North American apology for butter; don't get me started on their sucrose, HFCSyrup laden bread. Do not touch modern day wheat. Eggs, butter vital: contain vitamins that you won't get anywhere else. Fill up on good fats and you will never know hunger again.

I refuse to even consider anything "low fat" - and I just took the fat off OH's bacon to go with my tuna (I know, fusion cookery). I don't eat a lot compared with "normal" people but it always includes the fat. What does "high fat" mean?

I lied - I can't manage full fat milk in tea - but skimmed is an invention of the devil. Can anyone tell me the point?

Cream is the answer, in moderation: it does not have lactose. Some people swear by Bullet Proof Coffee; not my cup of tea!

No, not a lactose problem, just the taste in tea. Cream is NOT the answer to a UK cup of tea! And coffee in our house is always black - we live in Italy after all!

Since I started buying organic milk I find 1% is enough. Regular milk, must have 2% in tea. Only cream for coffee. Skim milk is undrinkable. The organic milk is not even available in skimmed form!

Good fats: BUTTER, coconut oil (for cooking, even olive oil unstable at high temperature, keep for salad dressing) avoid seed oils, nut oils ok if not allergic.

Are you suggesting Rice Bran Oil no good to fry my steamed veggies in to crisp them up?

Use small amount of Coconut oil & Macadamia Nut oil as they can take high heat with frying but usually start off with decent covering of Rice Bran oil as I crisp up lots of veg for hubbie and self.

What about hemp seed oil - does that count as a seed or a nut? It's supposed to be an excellent source of omega 3s. (Not for cooking, as a supplement).

I'm in need of an implant or bridge. I have visible bone thinning in jaw as shown on dental xrays since being on Pred. Had been on Alendronate for 3 months, but discussed with GP who said to stop taking it until dental work complete. My crown became "leaky" and bacteria caused massive decay underneath the crown. Tooth has to be extracted later this month. My research shows being on pred and also Alendronate can potentially cause big problems with extractions and implants, with slow healing, trouble with proper bone growth to the implant, infections, osteonecrosis, etc. Normally I would choose the implant, but am going with the bridge because it seems much safer and less invasive given my current state. I also don't think I can handle the several month process for an implant right now. Battling PMR and its issues is enough of a daily challenge.

I was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica shortly after having a dental implant this year and I was wondering if there is any connection. The timing is almost too much of a coincidence. Prednisone have relieved the symptoms of PMR but I feel we need to know more of the risks associated with implants.
