I use turmeric for cooking whenever I can. Also various anti inflammatory foods, calcium enriched foods, foods containing vit D ........ etc etc. I have become a total food nutter since being diagnosed with PMR. I do try not to take supplements unless absolutely necessary. I do take vit D and calcium to counteract the steroid side effects.

So have I. I have always used turmeric in curries but now add it to soups and almost everything else - including a favourite white blouse from which nothing will remove the stain! I also use fresh ginger in stir fries and sauces and sprinkle dried ginger on porage, this definitely helps with inflammation from RA and PMR. And blueberries - now cheap and plentiful so am freezing them - which are supposed to strengthen vision, I'm not sure they do but they're delicious anyway. And I've followed Celtic's advice on diuretic foods like fennel, garlic etc. to relieve fluid retention. I don't like taking prepared and processed supplements - I have enough tablets to take . I'd like to boost my calcium by scoffing lots of cheese but have to watch this for reasons of weight gain and limiting cholesterol intake so do take AdCal. Sorry if this sounds like a food blog but I think if you have PMR and like food and cooking you have to as aware and inventive as possible.

It is nice to come across another food nerd. I was very unaware of food content until I had PMR. I have noticed if I see someone eating something " bad", well in my opinion anyway, I have taken to having a huge inward shudder. The pred may be turning my mind! I actually have found the information on nutrition quite fascinating

Yes. I find myself casting a disapproving eye over other people's supermarket trollies. I don't think it's just the pred. Perhaps we're just getting better informed.

I am glad I am not becoming a nutter. I look at people's supermarket trolleys too. In fact I always have, but I think I may be becoming more critical.

Been using curcumin and the natural diuretics too. Am convinced they help aside from being yummy! I've gone gluten and dairy free as well having known I'm sensitive to them for years and not being good about it. After 6 weeks without them I had 3 slices of pizza one night last week (boy was it good) and was miserable the next day. Swollen, achy, headache and stomach bloated. Won't do that again soon! My naturopath got me on the curcumin and NAC right after my diagnosis and I think they helped lower my sed rate from 67 to 6 in 4 weeks. Also have noticed that if I forget the supplements one day the next day tends to be a 'not good' day (I refuse to have bad days!😹)

I don't have PMR but do have GCA, diagnosed in January after biopsy and down from 60mg pred to 15mg, and switched to "clean" eating at that time as I wanted to watch my weight. Notice that I do have have cravings as the lean meats, poultry and fish, along with the dairy, veggies, fruit and grains do fill me up pretty well. I do have other "snacks" once in awhile but notice that things with sugar are a lot sweeter now.

I hardly use salt but do use spices and herbs. Haven't used tumeric but going to give it a try.
