Well if you can't I and a lot of others are in trouble! I drink wine - can't stand beer despite having lived in a beer making area all my life since I was 18 (Scotland, Bavaria in Germany and near Newcastle). I keep trying - have not yet found one I like :-( but I do find there are some I can't take any more, especially heavy reds and very acid whites. So try a half and see how you get on!

Alcohol doesn't interact with prednisolone but I do find that when I have a glass of wine (or three) I get bad night sweats, which I didn't get before the PMR struck. Probably due to a disrupted thermostat. We're all different though so you might not experience this.

Hi Badgergirl .. I manage Occasionally to have a wine Spritzer .. I had a lovely medium Rose one with lunch yesterday ..I am not a fan of alcohol anyway but its nice on Special Occasions .. I like Rose because its nearer to Champagne ..but I don't like Champagne . I've always been told that Alcohol and steroids don't mix so I've always been careful ..take care. trish29

Hi Trish29. It's a bit controversial as the NHS information leaflet says it's OK whereas Drugs.com (a reputable site) says no alcohol with pred and the Australian Rheumatology Association says 2 standard drinks in one day are OK. I would go with what you say - nice on Special Occasions but not habitually because it stands to reason that alcohol would be bad for the stomach whilst on pred.

I quite agree Badgergirl .. Just the Occasional drink sounds Good to me .. It makes it more Special. I realise that all these Medications are powerful stuff so I've never taken Real risks with them .. Enjoy the rest of your Easter Monday . I must say that a lot of the Questions and Posts have been so interesting recently and due to the Virus I have been through a lot of the questions and Replies helped me to make a lot of Decisions etc. It is so hard to get through the day with this condition that you just have to get on with it the best you can . thanks for your reply. When I have a drink I get bright red cheeks. Even with a glass of shandy.

Me too! Not sure why but I put it down to thinner skin from prednisolone effects showing dilated blood vessels underneath. People do comment as I go so red.

Interesting! I could not, and did not want, to drink alcohol for several months after being diagnosed. After about 9 months I managed my first real ale which was beautiful! Since then I can only manage no more than a couple of pints of real ale or a whisky or two. It's not a bad position to be in when you realise your limitation is a couple of drinks. Happy days :-)

I am with PMR pro, one of those people who would be in trouble if alcohol and pred did interact. I have never been a heavy drinker but pred has not caused me to change my drinking habits. Interesting that Badgergirl gets night sweats, it happens to me but I did not associate it with the medication. I think that it is worth putting up with.

Haha! Yes, I agree. I hate the night sweats but they don't stop me drinking a couple of wines at the weekend. We need some comfort with this horrid condition, after all, don't we?

I understand that the odd drink is fine. I have heard that red wine has health benefits for PMR although I am not sure how scientific that is! If I can't have a drink now and then I may as well give up now!
