Hello. I was wondering if anyone in this group has had a transplant where your native kidney/s was removed. I have had two hernia repairs in the last two years. At my last evaluation the nephrologist said the surgeon decided at the time of surgery.

Kidney removal?
If your kidneys are causing pain and other treatments aren't working, you might be recommended to have one or both kidneys removed. This is called nephrectomy. Surgery can be used to treat painful cysts or reduce kidney size. If kidney failure causes your parathyroid glands to be overactive, you may need them removed.
I haven't, but I found this bit of information talk to your Nephrologist, he/she will give you a much information. Take care 💚
CA_Coast how are you doing? Did you have a transplant? I hope that you are doing better.
Thanks for your reply. No transplant yet. Maybe November. They want to do an MRI to see just how large my liver is to see if they need to remove a kidney just for the space.
Hello CA_Coast You are best to speak to your Renal care team regarding the potential of kidney removal. They will be able to explain to you the risks involved and also the recovery time which can vary dramatically from person to person. You may find to a topic which has been discussed by others in some of the PKD Facebook group which are international in membership.
