hey everyone! I’ve been dealing with anal fissures on and off ever since giving birth back in 2016. I used to be able to go months and months before having a retear. Then I started noticing I’d tear around my period. Then in 2023 I stopped working out and I noticed I got fissures every month!!! It’s gotten worse and so has the pain levels. I’m having a rectal exam under anesthesia on Thursday. She says she’s going to cut my sintenial pile, since it flares up and hurts. Also she wanted my permission to do a hemrrhoidectomy if she sees bad internal hemmies. I’m so afraid of that because I hear the recovery is so painful. I want LIS surgery but she says I have to do Botox first. So many people say it makes them worse. I can’t imagine feeling worse!!!! I think I’d pass out from pain at that point. Ugh who relates or who has had good Botox success stories? Anything positive would be great!

I was diagnosed with levator ani syndrome some years ago which causes painful rectal spasms and affects ability to have normal bowel movements.I see a specialist womens physio who does internal/external vaginal trigger point therapy and I get 3mthly botox injects into pelvic floor. Combination of treatments really helps with pain and allows me to sit more comfortably.

I have to use trans anal irrigation for toileting which is helped with above treatments.

It took some time to get the right combination of treatments and meds that help alleviate symptoms it is now just part of my daily routine.

Hope you find treatments that help with your condition.

I see a neurogyeanecologist (nhs) who does treatments in a short stay clinic.I have a colorectal surgeon who supports me with having colitis and severely compromised bowel due to adhesions.

Also see a specialist womens physio. What's great is I can see all three at the same appointment as they finally realising that all conditions symptoms are related and impact on each other. It's great that I don't need to wait months to see them individually.
