The itch and pain have been persistent and doesn't decrease regardless of what I do. The itch and pain are only on the clitoris. Has anyone dealt with this? I'm new here and new to the UK and London. Is there a doctor who you would recommend for an issue like this - I don't mind paying privately, I just want it to stop cus its greatly affecting my life.

HiHaving had a similar experience I understand how horrible this problem can be. Here are a few thoughts you might consider. Are you aware of any triggers that could have caused this? Some people have symptoms like this after UTIs or thrush. It can also be triggered by pressure e.g. cycling or sitting a lot over time. Perhaps ask your GP for a referral to a gynaecologist who is familiar with vulvodynia, and to rule out other causes. I'd also recommend a visit to a women's health physiotherapist who is experienced in pelvic pain issues and vulvodynia ( not all are) as they can take you through a desensitizing programme if appropriate. I saw Bernie at bounce back physiotherapy Chingford, E4 £90 per hour I think. Worth every penny for me.

Thank you, will give it a look. The problem I'm facing is that I have been to the GP and got referred for a vulvodynia specialist but due to the pandemic waiting for an appointment takes longer than a month. So in the meantime, I just have to wait and suffer. I have looked at a few private clinics such as London Pain Clinic but their first consultation is 250 which is definitely not cheap.

If going private, I would recommend women's health physiotherapist rather than pain clinic. I understand it sounds odd as physiotherapists are usually for muscular issues but some specialise in nerve pain issues in vulval and vaginal areas as well as pelvic floor dysfunction.Best wishes

Sounds alwful. Make sure you wash the area only with cool water. I had a terrible itch there for year and it turned out I was burning the area with too warm water.

While you’re waiting for your appointment, you could, if you’ve not already done so, use Canestan and/or Vagisil creams, as these are available over the counter and unlikely to worsen the problem.

I am having this issue but more towards the urethra, I realised it was irritation from a new cleaning product we were using in the bathroom. The other thing it could be is the material of your underwear or the tightness of your underwear/trousers. Worth using cotton only for underwear. Second the suggestion of a physio. A really good women's health physio could help.

I've had this has happen to me many times simply by having a very small piece of toilet paper stuck under the hood of the clitoris. A very teeny tiny piece. It may be hard to see and you have to really push back the hood far enough too get a good look deep in the folds all around. If you cant get a good look try using a mirror. Another thing that it can be is that the itching started with something simple and once you start itching the itching itself makes it worse. When we scratch our skin we break open skin cells which release histamine causing you to itch more. It's a viscous cycle. In other words try not to scratch if you can. Urine can also irate the skin and depending on what you eat can make you itch down there. I myself just got through with one of these viscous cycles just on my clitoris and what helped me was after every time I urinated I cleansed myself with cold water soak toilet paper also applied a cold water wash cloth for awhile before finishing as its very soothing and that alone gave me a lot of relief. I applied a strong benadryl cream to just my clitoris and only after it soaked in as to not wash the cream away I would keep a cold water wash cloth near me to sooth down there when needed ( It was just me at home lol) and held back on the itching as much as I could bear. A few days later it went away completely. So for sure keep clean of urine, washing only with cold water, no soaps or wipes, cold washcloth and try not to scratch. ( The benadryl I don't think is for the genitals but I was DESPERATE lol so that you make your own decision). To be honest my doctor prescribes me a steroid cream for me when I get bad itching flare ups on my arms and legs. I have very sensitive skin and that's actually what I used which I know Im not suppose to use down there but I was desperate and it was caused by my over itching. My prescribed cream is basically a very strong over the counter benadryl cream. ( That's what I was told anyway). Good luck and I pray you find relief. I feel your pain...literally and it drove me crazy. Thank god my boyfriend was gone and I could scratch freely. Lol. I was my own worse enemy. Thank god it's over. If nothing helps please see your gynecologist.
