Hi Donna, I have had several fistulas but they were perianal, meaning they were located outside of the vagina and rectum and located almost between the two but more to the side of them. Mine was due to a very weak rectal wall that somehow when going to the bathroom I must have injured it and therefore the injury, which creates pus, works it's way out in the form of a tunnel type. I have had this pop up on my 21st birthday the first time. Nice , huh? and then again when I was 26-27, I had it cleaned out and packed with antibiotics. And the third time was the absolute worse, It had abscessed and my doctor didn't know. So he completely cleans out the tunnel, and takes the skin around it and then packs it. I had my mom up to help. In the am I had to remove the packing, and do a sitz bath after going to the restroom. Then my mother had to repack it, and it was painful. Unfortunately, because it had abscessed, he had to go back in deeper. So we had to repeat, however it was caught early. I was out of work for awhile. The third time happened when I was forty. I haven't had one since. They are buggers, but if you get a good doctor that knows what he/she is doing , then one surgery should suffice. Good luck.

Thank you so much. .I am lying here at 2am thinking I have cancer and get your reply. I feel a bit calmer thank you. Mine feels very swollen but there was no fever to indicate an access. Did you have bad fever?

No Donna, no fever. It just all a sudden felt like I was sitting on a golf ball.

Thank you. Mine came on suddenly and felt like a sausage inside me quickly turning intoa golf ball, and sharp one at that. Actually felt relief when it broke through as the pressure dropped then. You have definitely eased my mind x
