Pain Meds for Nerve pain

Hi, can anyone please recommend the best pain meds for nerve pain that don’t cause side affects of constipation? I can’t taken any meds that may make me constipated, as have already suffered from 3 anal fissures previously that got me in this mess in the first place!

I have basically now been diagnosed with Short Pelvic Floor Syndrome (hypertonic pelvic floor muscles) that went into spasm and have subsequently caused me PN irritation in my vagina area and also have slight on and off Levator Ani pain due to tight pelvic floor and tight hips with lots of trigger points in according to my Physiotherapist.

Thanks in advance,

Jo

I take Gabapentin for nerve pain and it's excellent. You have to ramp up slowly because it will make you tired but STICK WITH IT and in a few weeks you will notice the decrease in pain. It does not cause any constipation and is far, far better than other pain meds. I also take Zanaflex with it and the combination seems to be very good for me. Best of luck to you!!!

Hi, I have quite complex health conditions which leaves me in chronic pain and an added complication of levator-ani syndrome. This causes my pelvic muscles to "lock" in debilitating spasms whereby I can't walk or sit, so spend a lot of the time lying flat. Unfortunately due to allergies and severe reactions to certain drugs I am limited to pain meds of tramadol and ammitryptilin which causes severe constipation not ideal as I have a dysfunctional bowel condition. . At present have had first round of botox injections into the pubirectalis muscle, has slightly reduced pain in the vaginal area but no effect on my bottom area, so awaiting appointment for botox in the rectum. Has anyone had this procedure, and was it effective? Have also Just started CBD oil last week desperate to find something that works. I also see a specialist physio who does trigger point manipulation to ease spasms which does help a bit but have to attend frequently as it is short lasting. The thought of anyone else going through pain like myself is real sad hope you get something that will help with your pain. Good luck!

I take Lyrica and it doesn't cause constipation. However, it does have side effects for many people. You have to weigh pros and cons. For me, the weight gain and memory issues are worth it for the relief it brings me.

Jo, it seems most people do experience constipation as a side effect of pain meds. I don’t at all because I had part of my intestines removed as a result of the mesh migrating and puncturing. I take narcotics for pain ( all other non narcotic meds caused negative side effects. One thing you may try is a form of magnesium that will cause loose stools in most people. Magnesium is good for muscles spasms and cramping. Do a google search on DIFFERENT TYPES OF MAGNESIUM. There are 5-6 different types. Read the side effects of each and pick one that can cause loose stools. Then you could possibly take a narcotic. I take magnesium glysinate which dies not cause loose stools.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone for your helpful replies.

I was also wondering if anyone had tried Lidocaine patches? My Physio suggested this as alternative.

Just wondered if anyone had any experience of these working for nerve pain relief?
