Hi all, my problems started about 10 weeks ago when I had frequent urination during the day and irritation in the perineum region which occasional rectal pain. Saw 2 separate GPs who told me I had a slightly enlarged prostate but offered no real help. I then went to see a consultant urologist who told me my prostate was fine and not enlarged (smooth and flat). He prescribed PAMVAX (Tamsulosin) for what he thinks is prostatitis which does seem to have made peeing a bit easier but still having to get up 3 or so times at night to go to the loo. After 2 or 3 times I just lie on my back and hope the feeling passes which it sometimes does. Have tried not drinking alcohol or any fluids a couple of hours before going to bed but it doesn't seem to make much difference and I'm sometimes mostly awake all night!
Anyone else had similar experience? Did you have further tests (I've been offered further investigations but dont want to risk infections, etc). Did you recover? After how long?
Thanks Dave

hi dave, my son has prostratitis, which I had to diagnose myself as doc didn't know but came to my conclusion that that is what he has. it is a chronic condition and I know he felt very uncomfortable with it and had the same symptoms as you. we did a lot of research and he changed his diet ie lots of fresh fruit and veg and organic wherever possible. he also is on a lot of supplements and has cut out junk food. he drinks a lot of cranberry juice, green tea, nettle tea. he takes raw organic bee pollen, turmeric tablets and some others. This was after lots of research on the internet and slowly his symptoms have gone, just the odd niggle now and again. it is worth researching and treating yourself as the doctor in his case was useless and they only prescribe drugs in any event. good luck
I presume you have had a PSA test? There is another test I believe called the 4K which predicts your likelihood of prostatic cancer. Both of them are simple blood draws. Wouldn't hurt to be tested for STD's as well. If they ever get to the point where they want to do a biopsy I would recommend getting a 3T MRI scan done first. But that's way down the road again I would suggest getting the blood work done first.
I’m going through this now and have a new post on here my problem is the constant feeling I need to urinate it’s driving me crazy ..... it’s eased from when I first started 3 weeks ago .... I stopped taking the antibiotics as they wasn’t doing anything really .....
Hi there. Nice to hear from you. Yes, touch wood, I'm a lot better now. I still go through periods of having to get up 3 times a night but generally it's just the once and again not too long before i'm going to get up anyway. The best results I get is not drinking any liquids maybe 3 or 4 hours before going to bed and if I could stay up longer it would also improve matters. I'm not taking any meds. Tried the tanulosin for a couple of months but not really sure if it helped at all. I think the main thing is time. Eventually things improve a bit then you stop thinking about it so much which also helps
This helps a lot as it’s hard to imagine how it was when you was normal and it makes you think it’s never gona end ...... bloody horrible condition sending me crazy
Hi Dave, A friend diagnosed with prostatitis because of rectal pain and urination. He tried a lot of antibiotics, but after a few months the symptoms began to show up. Finally, he found a herbal diuretic and anti-inflammatory pill. After taking this medicine for about a month, his symptoms of frequent urination were almost gone, and his pain was relieved a lot. He told me that prostatitis had not recurred for several years. Remember to treat actively after diagnosis.
