Duloxetine

Have just been advised to take the above in order to reduce my use of Gabapentine for pelvic nerve pain. I have issues with slow urination as well, so having read the contraindications for Duloxetine I am not at all sure that it will benefit me.

Has any one else be prescribed this for nerve pain?

I was prescribed this medication by my Internist. I started on 30 mg per day and just increased it to 60 mg. I had no side effects from taking 30 mg, but on day #3 of taking 60 mg, I am experiencing drowsiness:( I was told that it will take a few weeks to feel the full effects of this drug which also has the brand name Cymbalta. I am going to try to stick with it, so I might know better in a couple of weeks!

Thank you for your reply. I am already taking 600mg gabapentin Tds on top of which they want me to start the Duloxetine. They have told me if I tolerate the Duloxetine, they can then reduce the Gabapentine. My main issues are the side ecfects which can be decreased urinary flow. I already suffer from this already and it is the main reason I was switched to Gabapentin from Amitriptyline. I do not currently feel it is worth the risk

Hello. I took duloxetine fornmeralgia parenthetical which is a nerve condition in my leg. It helped with the pain a lot but I couldn't tolerate some of the side effects. Sexual side effects for me, and insomnia at the start of treatment. I didn't notice any issues with urinary retention and like you I'd been on amitriptyline and found the same thing, I couldn't empty my bladder properly ☹️

I definitely give it a go though, it started to ease my pain in a few days.

Best wishes 💗

I tried suppositories compounded with Gabapentin, amitriptyline, baclofen and diazepam. They made me so drowsy that I couldn't even function. They also caused a burning feeling. I guess everyone tolerates medications differently. It is trial and error for me!

I took for three weeks. It did nothing for my pain. I stopped taking it because I didn't like the side effects. It was sexual side effects for me. I'm still taking gabapentin about four weeks now and I can't tell it's helping me yet.

I have been on both for almost a year now and they work well together...300 of Gabapentin in am and 300mg in pm...Cymbalta taken with morning does...if having a rough day which I haven't in awhile praise God for that I take a Tramadol and that combination works really well. It took me about a month to build up a tolerance for all the drugs. Pray they work well for you also...be and stay encouraged.

I will ask my doctor to add the Gabapentin! How much Cymbalta are you taking?

Thanks!!

I have decided not to take cymbalta, as another use for it is treatmemt of stress incontinence. As I already have a problem with urinating due to a slow flow; this could cause me further difficulties. I have discussed this with the pharmacist and he agrees.

A good idea is to talk to a pharmacist. They are incredibly knowledgeable about medications.

Have you tried venlafaxine? That can sometimes be used for nerve conditions but not commonly, it's an SNRI like duloxetine but works more like an SSRI at lower doses.

Hope you find something that helps.

No I have not, but I will keep that in mind if this doesn't work--thanks!
