Hi

I'm 38 and have suffered pelvic pain since I was 13 due to polycystic ovaries and endometriosis, I'm now on the waiting list for a total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy......I'm apprehensive to say the very least, so any advice greatly received

I suffered from the same things since age 13 too. I'm now 44 and had a full hysterectomy 14 years ago. Once I was recovered from the surgery (do not rush yourself, look after yourself as it will benefit in the long run). I had an amazing pain free 10 years before I had a prolapse. I do t regret the hysterectomy at all, but I wish I was warned that losing all the supporting ligaments makes you more prone to prolapse, so take care not to strain on the loo etc. I would suggest seeing a specialist women's health Physio to look after your pelvic floor muscles. I was put into a medical menopause with zoladex for almost 12 months beforehand which reduced all the endometriosis. It has never returned. Things change so quickly in the medical world that 14 years ago is a long time ago so things may have changed. Maybe you could ask the consultant if you could contact a previous patient who had the same thing? I can safely say I have never missed those horrendous periods and pain! Good luck and take care.
