My colorectal surgeon is scheduling a steroid injection for levator spasm. Has this helped anyone? How is it different from Botox?

Guy,

I don't know about using steroids but I have used Botox myself and it helped me tremendously to eliminate pain with bowel movements.

I get steroid injections to the ganglion impar for rectal pain but my Dr says he cant go near the rectum. Where do they plan to inject you??

The Botox is injected into the spasm (tight) muscles. I also had the ganglion impar block which did nothing for my pain.

I have been diagnosed with pn but 95% of symptoms are in rectum/anus I had pt do internal massage and she said inside like 2 inches i was very tight and had adhesions. I have been thinking maybe not pn but levor ani but I dont have spasms as in a sudden intense muscle spasm you might get it is more a constant burning tingling thing that causes muscles to tighten in response to pain. Is that what you experience? or is it more like a muscle spasm you might get elsewhere which is intense but short lived?

I did the physiotherapy as well and had several trigger points. Went to orthopedic Dr who did another MRI. Dr diagnosed me with Levator ani syndrome and PN without doing an exam.

Went to pain mgmt Dr who placed hands on several area of butt area and said he did not think I had Levator ani syndrome as it wld be more painful.

My symptoms are rectal spasms and urge for bowel movement when I lay down. I have never had stabbing or pelvic pain. Mine is just pressure and tightness

I had bilateral PN block yesterday. They can give mild sedative and shots were not painful. I still feel some tectal pressure and spasms but doesn't seem as bad.

My problem has got to be positional with rectal pressure as I do not have this unless I lay down.

Stuchris, my symptoms are similar to yours. I tried PN block, but didn't help. My major pain symptoms are burning and tingling in rectal/anus area. It is more of constant pain, and not short lived spasm. May I know what you tried which helped. Do you think it is related to ani levator muscle, and what type of doctor I should see. Thanks for your help, and I hope you are feeling better.

My spasms felt like an ache feeling in the rectum area and I had pain with bowel movements. I only feel as though the skin is hurting/ burning when I sit. I don't have pn though.
