I would like some feedback on the side affects of the Depo shot if any one is currently having it or knows anything about it for the treatment of endometriosis, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Janice

I was given it for extremely heavy and painful periods which developed pre menopause. For me, it took 6 months to settle down. The pain was non existent. I had more energy because I wasn't constantly anaemic. My periods stopped completely. I was less moody and my sugary cravings stopped. I was on it for about 4 yrs.

I gained about a stone in weight which compared to the life I had before depot was worth it. I kept fit and exercised as much as I could to prevent any more weight gain. I'm now off it because of the menopause.

I found it a lifesaver, it gave me back my life, and I'm a bit heavier, so what, I'm also fitter. I am slowly loosing it. Its a long tough battle a few pounds here and there.

Not sure what advice to give your daughter, as she's at the other end of things. You specifically mentioned weight gain, so she must be worried about this. All I can say is do as much as possible not to gain weight naturally - eat well, exercise, keep fit, so that the only weight gained is due to the depot. Your weight is only a small part of you, and women especially gain weight for no reason - after babies, stress, illness, medication, chemical imbalances - we don't stop growing until we are 25!

There's a website mybodygallery.com where real women upload photos of themselves. It might be helpful for your daughter to see this, filling in all her stats in the search panel, but increasing the weight by 1 stone. She'll see that even with this weight gain, she'll look ok.

Good luck what ever you decide to do.

Not what you're looking for?
