i was prescribed amitriptyline because it is thought to be useful for pain and to also to help with your sleep patterns if they are a bit disrupted. I have been told by other people who have used it that it was very helpful for pain though it did nothing for me.

I would say that if your doc is happy for you to take it with your other medication then its worth a try.

When I was first diagnosed with a hiatus hernia I was taking something similar to Landsoprazole and domperidone until they put me on Landoprazole and then I found I didn't need it anymore. Domperidone is an anti sickness drug that I believe is basically designed to get food out of the stomache quicker (i.e. so you don't bring it up again!). They prescribe a lot for people who have trouble with medication making them sick like antibiotics and in the case of us hiatus hernia suffers it gets rid if the food quicker to help stop the reflux etc. you can even my this medication over the counter now. Branded Motillium I think. So nothing to worry about. Sorry don't know about the other drug. Hope a goes ok for you :)

Sorry for spelling mistakes that should be "buy over the counter" and "hope all goes ok". Don't you just love autocorrect!! ;)

They also prescribe it for people with ulcers etc too......

My work colleague was prescribed amitryptyline for pain relief because of her fibromyalgia. She said it did work for a while but was then put on something else but not sure what that was.

I was prescribed with 10mg amitriptyline at night for pain & sleep. It helped for a while, then I had to up the dose to 20mg at night. This worked for a while too, then stopped. My doctor said I could put the dose up to 30mg but this just made me feel to ill & doped during the day.

I stopped taking it all together about a month ago, but I'm going back to my doctors tomorrow as I can't cope with the pain at night along with very little sleep. At the same time I was told about amitriptyline I was also told that gabapentin could also work in a similar way, so I'll be minuet ironing this to my GP too.

I was initially prescribed with amitriptyline after a visit to a rheumatologist. I had tested positive for the RA antibody, but the rheumatologist told me it wasn't RA, but polyarthralgia due to PBC. She was the one who mentioned amitriptyline & gabapentin. One hepatologist hasn't been too keen on me being on amitriptyline, although she had to admit that if it was helping me with pain & sleep it was worth me taking it. Another hepatologist had absolutely no problems with me being on it.

Hope this helps. A x

I was prescribed amitriptyline for my fibromyalgia. Started on 10mg at night and now up to 80mg. I used to take Lansoprazole for my acid reflux but it wasnt working that well for me and change over to Omeprazole which i have found have helped more but sometimes still need the gaviscon aswell. I also have a hyatus hernia.
