Hi, I'd say straight away, it seems to be effective at whatever stage or symptoms you have. I have no symptoms but was still put on it and it has brought all my blood counts down, except bilirubin .
Good luck in November, remember write all your questions down now so you don't forget..
Lou
I agree with louf, I was put on it straight away and after a couple of months my blood counts came right down.
You can always ask your consultant if you can start it.
Hello, apparently if it is thought by symptons and bloods that one has PBC then one is supposed to be started on urso, even as I have since found out, before positive diagnose. But given you say you have tested positive for AMA and ANA then you probably should have been given.
It didn't work like that for me....I had to wait think it was 11wks from getting an appt with a gasto at hospital and then on that day I just had the AMA done even tho' I had the itch for 7mths by then, lfts were 'all over the place' but I was sent home with the words I'd get another appt when the results came back (which would 'take a bit of time as specialised test').
I had a further wait of almost 2mths to get told I had PBC and even then my GP (following his letter from the hospital) just asked one of the receptionists to ring me and tell me I had to go in for some medication (I asked her what so knew I was to be informed PBC) and then she had the gall to give me an appt for the wk after which would have meant a 6 day wait to get the script!
Yes I take urso, have for almost 2yrs (with the odd day back 'in the early days' I wasn't sure if it was right - think part is getting thru the first yr as I did start to feel alive once again after that time), but for me not sure it is exactly the way forward I still loathe having to take a pill twice a day 'to get by' so-to-speak but that is what I am still doing currently.
