I know that some of you have vit b12 injections. Could I ask if this was because you had low levels of b12 detected in your blood? I ask because I have thinning hair and have heard that b12 can help however my b12 levels in my blood tests taken appear to be ok so the hepatologist won't indicate these? Any thoughts welcomed
I have been taking vit b12 injections since July 2010. Blood levels were low. I also have thinning hair. It started 20 years ago when I was dx with low thyroid. What I have notice the last 12 years is the thinning hair goes in cycles. Right now I am in a thinning stage. That will last a couple months and then I will start to see regrowth that will last for 6 months and then the thinning starts.
It took me a while to see this pattern. Before I was dx with PBC (Jan. 2011) I would think it was because of weight loss (I am always trying to lose and when I do it's 60 to 120 pounds in 7 months or less) or I would have my thyroid checked.
However right now my thyroid, vit b12 levels are fine and I am not loosing weight. So my thoughts now - it is part of the PBC.
thank you so much for your answer. So its looking like this is a PBC thing then. Is your hair any better now. I know what you mean by cycles as this is exactly what mine is doing - thinning (usually after a period of my head feeling a bit hot and painful) then coming back again. My vit b12 levels are fine as apparently is my thyroid. Even my liver, just the positive amas. I really don't know what to do
Hi, I have also been having B12 injections for past 3 years as bloods showed very low levels.I have also been anemic for about 10 years or more and have iron infusions, not sure if there is a connection between anemia and low B12.Take care.
