What did you want to be when you 'grew up'? Did that dream come true for you?
Friday Fun question: What did you want to be... - PBC Foundation
Friday Fun question
I wanted to go into nursing. I am of an age where my father had other ideas for my career path and so I ended up at a secretarial school. I never became a nurse however I retrained in my late 30s and became a chiropodist (as it was known then) in America it is podiatrist. I enjoyed a successful career for many years until PBC and another debilitating condition caused me to retire early. Due to my office training I ended up working in the travel business and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to travel to far away places. The caring side of my nature which would have been useful in nursing has remained been useful in many other aspects of my life. What about you Donna?
Way back in the late 60's most of us were teachers, nurses, secretaries, or housewives. I was accepted at University of Missouri to be a history teacher - always my best school subject. Somehow I changed my mind and ended up in a local hospital's nursing program.... 43 years later I retired from nursing, most of which was in Labor and Delivery. Funny how our life takes turns that puts us on a path we never even thought of.
Good morning from New Brunswick, Canada! My dad really wanted me to be a nurse like my two older sisters, but i didn’t want to. I wanted to be a teacher, which i started out as….i then trained to become a Reading Recovery teacher, who works with young children with reading difficulties. Later moved to the middle school and taught French Immersion. Finished my career as a Literacy Supervisor for a school district, which allowed me to work with the school administrators, do professional development both at home and abroad, and meet so many people! I loved it all! I also am a self taught musician, and that occupies my s pare time. My Dad did get his nurse, though….my daughter is a lactation consultant. He must be smiling down at her! Yes, Donna, what about you?
a teacher and a nurse. I was a teacher for 30 years. Loved it but still would have liked to have been a nurse!
First I wanted to be a ballet dancer, but my father said I was to tall (I was4) so I decided I wanted to join the army. I ended up joining the WRAF and I loved it.
First of all, thank you for your service. Did you ever take ballet lessons?
