VITAMIN K2: Does anyone take this? I was... - PBC Foundation
VITAMIN K2
Honestly, I was somewhat surprised to read this. Vitamin K is used to combat blood that is too thin or there is excessive bleeding for some reason - it has blood clotting factors in it.
Yes, it is used for bone health, heart health, certain cancers, and Insulin sensitivity. I know there are several other medications on the market to aide in osteoporosis. Interesting enough, some think that it may be the missing link between diet and several chronic diseases. As a nurse, I've just always used it to give to newborns so they can begin manufacturing their own blood clotting factors. Just read all you can about it for sure It can cause hypertension in some cases. Make sure it doesn't interfere with any other meds you take. Even something as simple as walking can help in bone health. Let us know how it goes for you.
Hi. I am a 60 year old female and have had PBC since 2010. Unfortunately a non responder to Urso but have always been advised to take it. This year I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis at high risk level. My doctor prescribed me Alendronic Acid 70mg 1 tablet weekly. I was also advised to take vitamin calcium carbonate 600mg, vitamin D3 2000IU and vitamin K2 100. This is an all in one capsule which I have been told to take daily at night as I'm told the bone absorbstion is better. The combination is to help growth and strengthen bone density. I will not know if there is any improvement until my next annual Dexa scan in July.Excerise is good but you need to be careful as to what type is good for you. In my case such things like aerobics are not to safe as high risk. Instead I do brisk walking of 8km each day and try swimming a couple of times a week.
I think a lot can depend on age and level of osteoporosis. Maybe another chat with your doctor to clarify what would be best for you specifically would help.
Feel free to get back to me if you have questions.
Stay well
Kind Regards Tracey
I also have Osteoporosis and am prescribed Alendronic Acid and a vitamin D with calcium tablet. For many years before diagnosis I used BetterYou Vitamin D+K spray at night which I believe had helped keep my level of osteoporosis low. I continue to use this spray at night but at half the suggested dose. This is my own decision and I have not spoken with any medical professionals about my choice.
It is known that those of us with PBC may be deficient in the group of vitamins A D E & K which are fat soluable. Most of these vitamins can be found in certain food items. I am putting a link to the NHS web page on vitamin K which you may find interesting.
There was also a presentation to be found on YouTube called Ask the Experts, at least 30 minutes in Saumya Jayakumar MD comments on the fat soluable vitamins of A D E & K. Although quite old now I imagine the information is still current.
Thanks for the info, I too have AdcalD3 prescribed and infusions of zolendronic acid when required, I can't take oral alendronic acid because of my hiatus hernia.I'd just read some negative reports about K2.... 🤔
