Cholurso side effects

Hi, I was diagnosed with PBC a few years ago although no liver damage and mostly asymptomatic. A couple of weeks ago my consultant put me on Cholurso tablets 3 x 500mg per day. I started with one tablet after my evening meal and had no problems at all. Then after a week I tried having two tablets after my meal. Within hours I had awful stomach ache and nausea and has put me off taking any more.

I gather this is a known side effect of the medication but can anyone tell me how long it takes for the body to get used to it? I can't live with constant nausea, it's utterly miserable. I asked a local pharmacist for advice but she'd never heard of the drug! She then googled it and said yes it causes nausea and proceeded to give me a recipe for lemon and ginger tea! Not the kind of advice I was after!

Any advice or suggestions?

How can a pharmacist not know about this drug?! anyway.... this is a problem for many. I hope some of our members have some suggestions for you. I would have suggested that you ask the pharmacist about other manufacturers. Some of them use 'filler's that just don't agree with certain people. I know you are not the only one who has this problem. One of my friends actually has her Urso 'made' at what we call a compound pharmacy. Can you even cut the tablets in half... take your time getting up to the dose. I hope someone can help you. I've been told there is a liquid???
