kifer: l have been making and drinking... - PBC Foundation
kifer
From what I've read, it is beneficial as it's a probiotic. Check with your doctor though just to be sure.
I didn’t ask about kefir but I think it is similar to yogurt which I know is okay to eat. Likewise I did ask about kombucha which I like…my liver doctor said that is good to drink.
I have kefir every three days or so. I never even thought about it in relation to PBC. As far as diet and foods go there is no PBC diet, so I go with everything in moderation until i'am told otherwise.
( For fatty liver I think there may be some guidelines on diet not sure that would include kefir though you may want to check it out)
I have been using Kefir every morning in my porridge for at least the last 5 years, on the very odd occasion that I have a dessert such as apple crumble I put kefir over instead of custard, cream or ice cream. It is said to be good for gut health. It has not had a negative impact on any of my blood tests. I do not have a diagnosis of fatty liver.
We are learning the microbiome has a huge impact on our health including possibly being related to autoimmune diseases. Kefir and other probiotic rich foods help support our microbiome. That said, be sure to look at the label. There are great plain kefir products out there, but some of the flavored ones are loaded with added sugar.
