I noticed some of you talking about your GGT levels….mine was 569. I know that is very high, i am just wondering if it is alarming….my hepatologist said he is more concerned about the ALP level and that even getting that to 170 would be good….was 325.

I’m glad you’ve found this site because it’s wonderful for support and information, as is the UK’s PBC foundation, which you could also contact. If you add more about your diagnosis and treatment it’ll be easier for someone here to respond. Also let us know what you’re asking or looking for.
Based on what you’ve said, you’re at a stage where your hepatologist is trying to reduce the marker ALP, which would indicate a good response to treatment. Both ALP and GGT can of course fluctuate, and they’re generally seen as part of the picture along with imaging, etc.
GGT is now known to be a marker of significance - though often concentrated upon less than ALP. I saw a paper recently which underlined this and other useful evidence extracted from a large scale study.
I suggest: stay in touch with all informed sources of support, learn as much as you’re comfortable with and make sure your doctor is a good match for what you want.
Well done for finding and posting on this site, and best wishes!
Thank you so much Skypony, for the support and kind words. My doctor is new to me, as is PBC. I am on Ursodiol, 750 mg/daily. I was allowed to travel, so hubby and i have made our way to Key Largo for a few months. That will give the Urso time to work, i hope. When i get back, I’ll have a fibroscan, ultrasound and bloodwork done. In the meantime, i have this biting lower back pain, like a pinched nerve, that is constantly nagging at me. Wondering if anyone can tell me if it is ok to take Tylenol in moderation…..
In UK Tylenol is ‘Paracetamol’ and yes I believe there’s no reason not to use it in moderation for a short time. I certainly do, as do many others with PBC. For slightly longer term use, could you try a local anti inflammatory gel? Or applying heat with an electrically heated pad? Hope you’re free from the pain soon.
