joint pain supplements?

does anyone take things like glucosamine? Does it help with the actual joint pain? I should say so far the rheum ruled out RA. They are unsure about Sjogren’s as SSA and SSB negative. I know many of us with PBC have joint pain. Don’t really want to have to go on oral steroids. TIA.

I have read that turmeric can be very helpful against joint pain but there are also contraindications depending on your other health issues and the study was only for a month with a limited number of healthy adults. I would be very careful of any offers of miracle cures.

I have joint pain in my hands and hip. On the recommendation of the doctor I purchased a soft ball (a stress ball) and use it when sitting just opening and closing my hand and concentrating on squeezing the fingers, this can also be done in a bowl of warm water for added benefits. For the hip pain I follow Grow Young Fitness on facebook, I am sure there are many others but I have found I can fit these exercises in with my daily routine. As I strengthen the muscles it seems to ease the pain. If I have a bad day then I use something like Voltarol Gel to massage into the skin. I take so many other medications that this works best for me.

You are talking of going on oral steroids so I am guessing your situation is worse than mine and I would strongly recommend talking to the PBC Foundation as they have a medical advisory board with a great deal of experience in PBC.

PBC can cause early and very significant osteoporosis. This can also lead to joint pain. You should check with your doctor on that, especially if you think you would be on steroids, because that will only make the osteoporosis worse.

I know! I have had Dexa and am at risk. Do NOT want to be on steroids. Will circle back with doc. Thanks

Hi, I’ve just found out that my shoulder pain could be due to too much thyroxine, so it might be worth having your thyroid checked. I thought it was a liver flare up, took a month of steroids and they didn’t help. Now I know why. Too much thyroxine can cause hip and shoulder pain.

I was diagnosed with PBC in 2010. Also have underactive thyroid, Sjogren's, wheat/gluten sensitive, and have respiratory problems.

About 2 months ago, quite suddenly, I started having pains in my shoulders, arms and hips. Saw a physio at the GP surgery, exercises and co-codamol for the pain. Since then, blood tests showed I I had PolyMyalgia Rhuematica and the treatment for that is steroid tablets, Prednisolone, my GP after blood tests is slowly lowering the daily dose (12.5 mg a day at the moment) to find the necessary level to prevent the aches and pains.

I have also been put on bisphosphonates to prevent osteoporosis. I am 82
