I was diagnosed with PBC in 2021. Take my Ursodiol faithfully everyday. Had bloodwork done in April. Everything was good except my ALP is high but below 200. Just had bloodwork done again and now my glucose jumped up and they are now saying I'm pre-diabetic. I have gained weight, is that what is causing this or is PBC? Has anyone else had this happen?

Spike in blood sugar levels
As far as I know, pbc does not have an impact on glucose. Weight gain does impact glucose.
Being overweight (BMI of 25-29.9), or affected by obesity (BMI of 30-39.9) or morbid obesity (BMI of 40 or greater), greatly increases your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The more excess weight you have, the more resistant your muscle and tissue cells become to your own insulin hormone.
A1C is the blood glucose test use to evaluate average levels over a 3 month period. The A1C test—also known as the hemoglobin A1C or HbA1c test—is a simple blood test that measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 3 months. It’s one of the commonly used tests to diagnose prediabetes and diabetes, and is also the main test to help you and your health care team manage your diabetes. Higher A1C levels are linked to diabetes complications, so reaching and maintaining your individual A1C goal is really important if you have diabetes.
A normal A1C level is below 5.7%, a level of 5.7% to 6.4% indicates prediabetes, and a level of 6.5% or more indicates diabetes. Within the 5.7% to 6.4% pre diabetes range, the higher your A1C, the greater your risk is for developing type 2 diabetes.
In March, my A1C was 5.7% so my primary care doctor told me it was pre diabetes category. Told me to lose weight, go low carb, and exercise. She offered to refer me to a nutritionist.
I also messaged my endocrinologist who I see for my thyroid. Endocrinologists are also experts on diabetes in addition to the thyroid. She told me to do Intermittent fasting, go low carbs, and exercise. She also told me as we age, it might be inevitable that A1C inches higher no matter what we do.
I did IF for 3 months consistently and I had my liver doctor test the A1C in June. It went back to 5.6%. At my June appt, told my liver doctor about the 5.7%. He said it was not that bad and didn't seem overly concerned.
So I think I will have to eat like this long term to keep the weight off and lower the glucose levels. I lost 10 lbs. I want to lose another 5 so that I can fit back into my size 2 shorts. I am able to zip up and button but it is too snug to look good.
You should check in with your doctor on if it would be okay to do intermittent fasting and ask their advice on how to best address the issue. Intermittent Fasting is not for everyone. My endocrinologist does IF too.
I also exercise 5-6 days a week 30-45 minutes each session.
Hope this helps.
same here. Suddenly my blood pressure soared, high sugar level and diagnosed as pre - diabetic. Put on Amlodipine tablets two weeks ago which appear to be doing nothing other than making me ‘crash’ with fatigue. Used to take in morning but now evening which seems to be better. Been on Urso for 13 years. Am a couple of stone overweight and trying to lose it but, like you, am concerned.
