Scary GI Bleed

Second time this has happened. The ambulance just gets me to the hospital in time. PBC stage 4 decompensated.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I’m praying for you. I’m glad they were able to get you to the hospital quickly.

May I ask how far you live from the hospital? This is my biggest fear and I’m afraid we live too far from the hospital.

Hi, I live 30 minutes from the first hospital. It's a small rural one and they do not do scopes. They stabilize me and send me by ambulance to University hospital. 70 minutes away. Once I have thrown up, I feel fine but they do a endoscopy to see where that blood came from. If it was a bad burst or bleed, I would die before making it there. These are somewhat slower leaks. 5 pints of blood is a lot to lose. I'm on pills to lower blood pressure so the vessels won't or hopefully should not leak. They are going to do more frequent scopes to try and catch them before they leak. Good luck to you on your liver journey.

Hi just seen your post on your bleed from varices wanted to know if you had any warning maybe just before this is going to happen just lately im getting a strange feeling lightheaded and hot feeling and im starting to think something is going to happen like a bleed then 10 mins later feel normal again thanks in advance for any info i have heard people say you have no warning but surly if this is going to happen you would have some symptoms just before the bleed Thank you Cavi

2 days ahead if time I started having black stools and nausea. Progressively worse as the day went on. My stomach was filling up with blood. The day we called the ambulance I could not even eat. Very weak (from anemia) I had the exact same thing happen in March, so I knew what it was but just put it off as I knew it would mean another hospital stay.

Thanks for reply are you now taking iron supplements for anemia also did you get any Varices banded

I had 3 blood transfusions and an iron infusion. Not taking any iron now as hemoglobin numbers ok. I had a "white nipple varice" that they banded. Will be getting endoscopies more often to watch for and trouble signs. " In patients with upper GI bleeding, the white nipple sign suggests that the varices bled recently and that the bleeding was severe" If you look at this link, there are 3 pictures of a "white nipple bleeding and after it was banded..pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/217...
