Hello Everyone,

I am hoping this post finds you all, doing the absolute best that you can. I just wanted to share some thing with all of you who suffer from PBC.

My dermatologist put me on the low dose of a drug called doxepin. I started taking it about six weeks ago I am on 10 mg capsules at bedtime. I didn’t know about this drug. But she told me she had one other patient with PBC. And it helped her tremendously as well. It’s a very low dose anti-depressant, and a histamine which helps with the dreaded itch, And I also sleep for 6 to 7 hours straight. Which for me was unheard of. Prior to taking this medication.Nothing else has ever helped me before. Of course I asked my Hepatologist about it, first, before ever starting it.

So I’m sleeping better at night,I have no itch. I just thought, it is something you may ask your doctors about. So far , it has not affected,my labs in a negative way.

Just putting it out there, for possibly something that you may discuss with your own doctor. And it could help you too.

Big hugs,

Lorraine Louise

I was just prescribed doxepin as well due to itch and a horrible skin condition which recently developed. Dermatologist doing biopsy of a few lesions to determine what it is. Still need to talk to hepatologist about it. Was you doc ok with it? I also take it at bedtime and sleep has been undisturbed - finally.

Sister,

Yes, my Hepatologist was absolutely fine with it. In fact, for some reason it has helped my liver enzymes go down as well. It helps me sleep. And I have had absolutely no itching, since I started taking it.

Hope it works as well for you. Best of luck. Let me know how it works for you I know so many people on here suffer from the edge and couldn’t get no relief. I wish more doctors would try doxepin.

I’ve been on it for over a year now with no negative side effects. Only positive.

I forgot to say, I had several biopsies, and they could never come up with anything. So the saxophone was just a trial for me and get the trip.
