Is there anyone else who is taking 4 x 500mg of urso a day ? I've been on this dosage for approx 2 yrs now, this has only just been questioned by the pharmacist I have changed over too, they have asked me to speak to consultant as dosage seems very high as I'm 11stone in weight ? Does anyone else take this amount ?

That looks high to me. Normally people in that weight range take 500mg twice a day. Or l000 MG a day. Urso dosages are based on weight. You should talk to your doctor. It could be he had a reason to put you on that dosage.Pam
Thank you Pam, I will give them a call as I did start on 2 a day then my increased in so was put up tom3 a day then my weight increased again and that's how I got to 4,
Hi, when I started on Urso I weighed the same as you and I was put on 4 x 250mg a day, so a total of 1000mg, so that does seem a high dose you are on. I take 2 x 250mg in the morning and 2 x 250mg at night. I’ve lost some weight so may be reviewing this soon.
The usual calculation for dosage is 13-15mg per kg, so yes would be a good idea as Pam suggests to check with your specialist.
Thank you for your reply, I will give them a call today because I've been on that high dosage now for about 2 plus years and Im experiencing bladder problems where they thought I may have had a blockage but scans and blood tests was clear I'm wondering now if this is something to do with having such a high dosage! I'll give my consultant a call todayThanks again for your reply x
It does seem awfully high. I was 11 stone and take 1000mg a day, just as an example: I’ve been dieting and now weigh 10 stone however my dosage stays the same. There is a weight range to the medication, so you don’t always need to change the dosage if your weight fluctuates within that range.
If you look in your pack there should be a patient leaflet, you can see a table of weight ranges for the tablet you take.
But always speak to you doctors before making any changes, it’s good that your new pharmacy is on the ball and questioning it.
I know, God knows how long I could have been on this high dosage for if i hadnt switched pharmacy ! Just hope it's not caused more damage ! Thank you x
Hope you get to speak to the consultant or get a message through soonest but if you have a bit of a wait do contact the PBC Foundation as they will be able to access specialist advice for you. Alternatively this coming Thursday Professor Jones is the guest speaker on the Thursday Q&A sessions and he may be able to give you some guidance. The bladder problem may not be related to the higher dose so you may want to get this checked out separately.
I am 10 stone 10 lbs and take 4 x 250 mg urso so think your dosage is high. You need to speak to your consultant ASAP. You could ring the secretary and get message through
I started out on 250 mg 3 times a day then after a year she lowered it to 250mg 2 times a day. I am about 9 stone or 125 pounds. You do seem to be on a very high dose. It sounds like double what you are supposed to be on. At the very least inquire the reason for such a high dose. God Bless, Anni
I'm on 1500mg a day and I weigh quite a fair bit more than you I did start off at 1000mg but unfortunately have put weight on so that's why mine was upped. Hope you are able to get hold of or get a message to your specialist xx
I managed to speak to my consultant regarding the dosage I should be taking and glad I did, I should only be taking 1g daily!! I have been wrongly prescribed by my GP!! I'm not sure if they can cause problems by taking a high dose tho as I've been taking double the amount for approx 2 yrs !
I take 1500 urso+400 bezafibrate and soon maybe ocaliva too.. Unfortunately after giving birth a couple of years back I stoo responding to urso so with time I got more and more. The Dr has some equation including body weight that she keeps track with.
I do not know how many lbs that means but I take 4 X 300mg or 1200 mg and my weight is 180 lbs.. I know dosage is based on your weight but I don't know how it's figured
