Ursosfalk's main ingredient is the same as in Ursodiol, FDA approved medicine, it is ursodeoxycholic acid.
I have understood that Ursodeoxycholic Acid is a synthetically produced bile acid. perhaps a word with your dispensing pharmacist will allay your fears. I have been prescribed URSO for over 15 years.
Hi as others have said it's a type of bile acid "Ursodeoxycholic acid, also known as ursodiol, is a secondary bile acid, produced in humans and most other species from metabolism by intestinal bacteria. It is synthesized in the liver in some species, and was first identified in bear bile, which is the derivation of its name Ursus." Unfortunately it is derived from animal source - I believe usually bovine. I emailed one of the company's that produce Urso 2 year ago to ask if it was vegetarian/vegan and got the following advice "All ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) is derived from cholic acid and this is animal sourced. There is no synthetic cholic acid so there is no UDCA product on the market (any country, any manufacturer) that is "vegetarian". I believe there are efforts to synthesise cholic acid but it is not available yet and won't be for the foreseeable future, as far as I am aware."
I think the different brands may have slightly different non active ingredients, and I think there may be a liquid form - but I'm not sure about that. (Link to one of the manufacturers info - scroll down to box 6 for the non active ingredients. medicines.org.uk/emc/produc... )
Hope that helps
