Milk Thistle and Boldo
Since each pbc patient have medical histories unique to themselves, you might want to run it by your own doctor or liver specialist.
I tried milk thistle and it had no benefits. Doctor said it was okay to take it, however.. I don't know anything about boldo.
HiI’ve been taking urso same dosage for 12 years and am now 70 and quite well. I’m not sure I would add any thing else . My specialist told me no supplements . Milk thistle I’ve never taken or considered. All the best but if in doubt don’t!!
I started milk Thistle about 8 months ago when my liver was inflamed and my levels where still high but was told not that high.. I had blood tests and an ultrasound 3to 4 months after starting it, my blood work ups we're back to all in normal range ..my ultrasound showed inflammation was gone at least for now.. this was in Feb/march . Since then though I have had a gastroscopy, a CT scan . And more blood tests for both the GI doc and the rheumatologist (checking for rheumatoid arthritis) I have alot of joint and soreness all over.Got a call from him yesterday. My blood tests all show normal , liver , vitamin , and even the markers they look for with rheumatoid arthritis are not there..All good news so far.
I was diagnosed in May 2020 at 52 yrs old with PBC, enzymes were high since 2019, everything was normal before that time..I also supplement with A, B12,K and D
I eat somewhat better too. No or next to none sugar, salt , fatty foods and processed foods.
Going for more bloods in July with another ultrasound...and should receive my results of those with CT scan and gastroscopy by end of July..
I was diagnosed in 2019 and my specialist told me to steer clear of all over the counter supplements. I have only taken Iron or Vit D supplements when my blood tests have shown low levels and the vitamins have been prescribed by the doctor I avoid anything else.
My dr just told me I was able to take it but I would imagine every case is different so it is good to check with your dr too
