Herbalife and raised readings

Hi I was diagnosed in 2000 and in recent years I have put a lot if weight on due to lifestyle. I decided in june this year that I would lose this excess weight and went on the Herbalife plan this includes 2 shakes a day and a well balanced meal in the evening. I have lost around 2 stone. I then had my consultation with my consultant and she said that my alp reading (I think that what it was) as gone from 139 to 174. I told her about my weight loss with Herbalife and she has told me to stop this. Does anyone know anything about Herbalife and why I have been told to stop it. Thank you.

I know that Herbalife was investigated after more than 50 people suffered from liver damage while taking it and a number of countries have banned ingredients in it. I would follow your doctor's orders on this.

Thank you for that. I would just like to know exactly as I want to tell my upline sponsor as she is just poo pooing what I told her and she’s told me not to say anything to any of our team. I think maybe she doesn’t want to lose her income.

I'm sure she doesn't want to lose money. For you it should be simple as your consultant has told you to stop taking it, so you have to stop and she can't really argue with that. Or you could direct her to some of these:

I’ve stopped products straight away as my health is more important and I’ll send her those links. Thank you again

This article cites the actual cause of the problem ( high levels of heavy metals among other things).

"Herbalife ‘Scam’ Weight Loss Product Associated with Fatal Liver Failure" docwirenews.com/docwire-pic...

Its amazing how this stuff is sold with evidence like this! Terrible, it prays on desperate people, trying to improve their health.

Stick with a clean diet, avoid all the processed foods / high sugar and fat, try to eat lots of veg, wholegrain, nuts, seeds legumes etc

I know how hard it is, I self sabotage everyday!!

Take care

I have just messaged my son who is one of the top distributors of Herbalife in the UK , he has Ulcerative colitus not PBC and his Consultant is so pleased with his results ( no attacks since using it) that he was amazed at his results and told him to keep up his healthy lifestyle ...I will copy his answer for you ......

"There are always going to be articles about anything if you go looking for it Eg type in is milk bad for you and there will be loads of articles etc

Herbalife has been around 40 years and 4 million shakes are drunk daily

We have 200 drs and scientists that put the products together etc

And we control whole seed to feed

I always say if you feel

Good , more energy etc

Then that’s great

People will pull facts out about it but happy order a Mc Donald’s or Pizza Hut .

I would just tell her to do what she feels right and how she feels

As it’s her body

With 4 million users daily we would have a lot of sick people and I wouldn’t be drinking it or giving it to my family "

Hope that helps

While this is a lovely advert, are you really advising this poster to go against her doctor's orders?

I was just getting advice from someone in the know...I am NOT advertising anything !!! She asked and I reported ......if you look at the links they are from 2007 & 2010 . And we all know that our ALP can change from week to week. I find your reply very rude , I am not promoting it just reporting from someone who uses it and has done for 7 years with an autoimmune disease

I apologise that my reply upset you, my intention was to be straightforward, not rude. I thought the poster was asking WHY she had been asked to stop, not IF it was bad for her. Your post sounded like promotional material from someone with a vested interest in it, not your personal experience. Now I understand you were just giving a balanced view in case she wanted to continue with it anyway.

Thank you , yes I was upset ...too be perfectly honest I can't stand the taste of the shakes so would not be promoting it !

I'm glad we sorted it out, this is a nice friendly forum and I will certainly watch how I word things in future!

I think sometimes texts and emails dont portray how you mean it. Some things sound obnoxious when they really aren’t meant to.

Herbalife has a lot of products so don't take this as a comment on all of their supplements, but when I told my hepatologist I was using a Beachbody product (Shakeology), she told me she hadn't heard anything about that one but then told me not to use Herbalife, as she had done liver transplants on otherwise healthy people who had taken Herbalife supplements. I looked up every ingredient in Shakeology before continuing and have taken it for five years without any noticeable impact. Their products are excellent. I'm a coach with them so if you want to know more let me know and I'll hook you up. Beachbody is a US company but their products are available in the UK.

Hi. My specialist has always advised me to avoid any herbal supplements. I used to take a couple of different supplements prior to my diagnosis. She wants me to only take vitamin D and B 12. Take care.

These are more like a meal replacement drink which aids weight loss.

Yea, I found this online (below). Probably best to stop using it. Google the ingredients. You may find the culprit that's causing liver harm starting there. I was doing Atkins...same thing happened to me.

The liver injury that has been attributed to Herbalife products has usually been mild-to-moderate in severity and self-limited in course, resolving in 1 to 2 months of stopping the preparations.Apr 11, 2018

In 2012, bad labs sent me to a Gastroenterologist and then quickly to a Hepatologist. I took all my supplements with me (10 bottles) and he only approved 2 of them. Vit D and Biotin. He warned me that he has done more transplants on people who have taken herbs than who were alcoholics. And he's been doing transplants for decades. I trust him and have never taken another herb. His words were "read the ingredients of everything you are thinking about taking. If ANY of the ingredients are botanical, or words that you can not pronounce, don't even think about taking them". For what it's worth, I started at early stage 2 and am now just early stage 3. Good luck to you!
