My hair dresser told me that if the hair loss is due medication, it usually rights itself after 12 months. Hope this is true.

Hair loss
Morning!
My hair loss became so worrying that I was referred to a dermatologist. He found I had low zince and plano pilaris together with female patter hair loss. I have been started on zinc tablets (for life) and have been using 5% minoxidil for about a month. To early to see any benefit but I will try it for a year. Minoxidil (Regaine) is expensive so I am really hoping it works.
Add me to the hair loss group.. ugh. In my case it could also be thyroid related as mine was removed and I’m on replacement. My Thyroid blood labs roller coaster up and down..
And of course side effect of URSO is hair thinning.
butterflyEi is the Minoxidil a topical application?
It is a foam EileenUSA I sourced it from Kirkland in the USA. It took about 2 weeks from order date to arrive in UK. If you look at the Kirkland site it has quite a bit of information on how to use their products. The dermatologist also said 5% was okay for me although the site says 2% for women. Perhaps best check with dermatologist if you can.
I found your post interesting about the Lichen planus on the scalp and that it was due to low Zinc.
For many years I have put up with my hair loss and also not losing weight despite joining Slimming World and Weight Watchers and then the host looking at me as if I’m a secret eater!
At present, Dr is treating me for diabetes and takes no notice when I say I have a thyroid problem. ( I have been on Levo twice and taken off it) I have all the symptom, and I have no get up and go.
My TSH test has come back okay, but yet my hair is still falling out.
I had Lichen planus and had to have a patch of skin removed from my mouth; my consultant at the time, two years ago, said that I had an autoimmune condition because I had said how I have a reoccurrence of thrush in my mouth.
I am thinking now that maybe this Lichen planus is on my scalp, and I need to take zinc. I wasn’t aware you could get it on your scalp!
Anyhow, I will book to see a dermatologist privately bc I am sick to death of been fobbed off.
Just adding to this in 2021
The hair loss mentioned in the above post is due to Vit D levels dipping going below 50.
My hair has thinned drastically and I have very distinct patches where my skull looks dangerously bald. So much so that I have had my hair cut severely short.
Initially my GP put it down to medication but recently she has sought advice and sent my blood results for review. Current thinking from my GP is that I am protein deficient, which is exacerbating the hair thinning issue. I do have extensive muscle wastage but am struggling to eat much at all as it feels as if I am swallowing and attempting to digest large stone pebbles.
I started taking Biotin daily supplement approx 3 mths ago and my hair dresser has said she’s noticed a positive difference. My hair feels and looks like baby hair. Not a great look in any one other than a baby!
