Hi, This is recipes and I have been on urso for about 2 years , I have had the itching but it is better now. I have just got over a uti infection and my fever is gone so I guess it was from the uti, I have had a lot of trouble with feeling gassy and bloated. I was wondering if anyone else have had this and if so have you found any thing that helps. I have read that if you take urso you don't need to take antiacids.

Hello recipes welcome to the group.
It is possible to take antacids but they are best taken at a very different time of day to urso as the antacids may reduce the effect of ursodeoxycholic acid. However as your "handle" indicates you may like cooking and food I wonder if changing your diet a bit may help with the gassy bloated feeling. There is a lot of talk these days about having good gut health which helps support a healthy overall system. For myself I was able to come off Omeprazole once I introduced live yogurt, kefir and the occasional probiotic tablet into my diet. At around the same time I started a high vegetable based diet almost completely cutting out red meat, low salt intake reduction in all forms of sugar and sugary drinks. I hope this input is helpful to you.
My primary care doctor suggests waiting 2 hours after taking the Urso before taking the antacid (I take an extended release). He says that this gives the Urso time to be absorbed. I experience gas at times. I take the antacid daily.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
I have bad issues with gas. I get bloated more at night or in the evening but the gas is the worse. I been on urso since biopsy in 2013. The itching comes and goes but lately it has gotten worse and the prescription my hep gave me for itching totally drains me and I'm told I can take it 3 times a day. If I take it at all, it will be a half or one few hours before bedtime. My GI Dr recommended Align for the gas and bloating. He said the other probiotics out there but they're not as good. I think it has been helping but I still have bad days and I hate it.
Hi Recipes,
Regarding antacids, I never use them. I believe that everyone, with or without PBC needs to eat the most healthy, natural food possible. Because we with PBC have compromised livers, I think its important to reduce the amount of toxins in our body, to give our livers the least amount of work to do in removing them. After diagnosis, 20 years ago, I looked into diet, body care products and house hold cleaners etc. Compared to how our grandparents lived, modern humans living in the western world, are surrounded with unnatural manufactured products that have only come into being in the past 50 years.
I have changed my lifestyle to help my liver, and the rest of me. I eat an organic plant based diet, cooking from scratch, using almost no processed foods. I have cut sugar from my diet, both bought sugar, and anything that has added sugar to it. I dont buy bread, cakes, biscuits. Any sauces or flavorings are organic, plant based, sugar free. I use organic plant based body care products - shampoo, moisturiser, toothpaste. No makeup. I use vinegar and bicarbonate of soda, and organic plant based cleaning products in my home. My bloods have remained steady for 20 years, I'm well and healthy at 66, and I also know that my diet and lifestyles choices are good for the planet too. I use supplements my doctor has recommended: glucosamine for arthritis, Calcium and vitamin D to prevent osteoporosis, I sometimes take a probiotic supplement.
I always take my urso in the morning, and Calcium/vit D at night, that's the same recommendation for antacid. I have found having a really healthy diet has given me the best health I can expect with PBC. Of course, we are all different, and have other issues as we age, not related to PBC. But I do believe that a healthy diet is a good basis for anyone's life.
I agree and you have gave me something to think about. I will keep your reply and reread. Thanks I am going to get glucosamine for arthritis.
I first saw the results if glucosamine on a very old pony (he was 31!) And lame from arthritis in one of his hips. After about 3 months on glucosamine, he came sound, and lived to be 40 years old! My knees were fairly painful in my 40's, and I used get terrible pain in an arthritic thumb joint, site of an old break. I've taken glucosamine for 20 years now, and have almost no arthritic symptoms, if I get a bit sore, paracetamol is enough to get me right. I can't stress the importance of diet on our health, we are what we eat! Best of luck!
Hi...There is nothing more uncomfortable than the bloated, gassy feeling after a meal.
Maybe a digestive enzyme would be beneficial for you. If you have access to fresh pineapple, eating a nice portion after a meal assists in the digestive process. I prefer natural over having to swallow one more capsule. With that said, I do use a probiotic specifically designed for women. As i entered my 60's, I began have issues with vaginal PH balance. I use Dr. Mercola Complete Probiotics for Women. So it addresses my gut and the hoo-hoo.
Hope you find some relief.... in the old days, they used to drink bicarbonate of soda for gas, bloating, etc. Might research that option too. Be well
Hi every one. I have found the reason for my low fever at times. I notice when I have a little ear ache and feel burning in sinus it is where my sinus are getting over dry so I will wash out with a saline wash and the salt heals and I don't get a fever. I think I am having the reverse side effect from urso. I never have had this kind of trouble before I started the urso and now I am having pain and soreness in my upper legs like arthritis, pain in the lower back.My gastro dr. has moved and I have not found another gastro dr. My primary dr. has me in therapy to see if it will help. Has any one had side effects like this from urso. Thanks
