What is considered a high AMA. I was told that mine was 1 over 640. Is this high?
AMA: What is considered a high AMA. I was... - PBC Foundation
AMA
My Mitochondrial M2 AB was 128.0. In my lab it should be less than 20.0. Is that what you’re referring to?
Mine was the same, the number shows the presence of AMA in 1:640 dilution, doesnt mean the amounts of AMA, just shows, that they can detect it even in such large dillution
Doesnt probably say anything about severity)
AMA is regarded as a flag, a marker for PBC, and possibly other auto-immune disorders, not a test, like ALP. The value of it is not as important, as the fact that the value is higher than the upper limit of the normal range for AMA.
"A high AMA or AMA-M2 level (titer) in the blood indicates that the most likely cause of symptoms and/or liver damage is PBC. The level of AMA is not related to the severity of PBC symptoms or to a person's prognosis. "
Cheers!
Thank you, I have recently been diagnosed with PBC and am trying to judge how severe it is. I am seeI got the consultant soon so hopefully will get some answers. X
It sounds like this might be an ANA result rather than AMA. ANA (Antinuclear antibodies) is a measure of autoimmunity and measured as a titer like this, and “1:640” is a common elevated finding in PBC (There’s often then an ANA “pattern” type that’s also included, and some patterns are more typically associated with PBC, like “centromere” or “speckled.”) 1:160, 1:320, 1:640, 1:1280, or 1:2560 are the possible abnormal titers, which is why it sounds like this is what you’re talking about.
Yes it’s considered high. As I know, titers more than 1:20 are considered positive
AMA's come in titers as well and ANA.
Thanks.
My last numbers were 1:1280. Doctor said it’s irrelevant in relation to disease progression.
Mine was 1/640, but as you say this may be irrelevant. I’m having a fibroscan in October apparently this is instead of a biopsy. I’m having an endoscopy in July. What about you? Xx
