Hi,
I was diagnosed in February and started on URSO. Just a quick question, do you normally have your ANA and AMA levels retested after initial diagnosis? If so, do they tend to stay the same or decrease, and by how much?
Thanks,
Kiki

My AMA, and smooth muscle was retested because I had a low titre. Both was weak positive. My AMA M2 is even weaker this time but showed up in my Biopsy as very early Stage 1 fibrosis Pbc. My smooth muscle was much higher in my blood and didn't show up at all in the liver. It depends I guess. My enzymes was all elevated. Now just my alt is elevated. Everything else is normal
Mine AMA was retested 4 times in 1.5 years. ANA was negative so it was not tested repeatedly.
I don't believe my ANA was abnormal, but, I tested AMA numerous times, even though it is really enough to test it once, because it is an auto-immune system marker. Since the first test, AMA decreased, but, it's still outside of normal range. It is more important to monitor your LFTs. AMA is not expected to become normal with Urso. My doctor also said that LFTs may never go back to completely normal, but, the hope that Urso will lower them as much as possible.
Hello KristinPelletier.
I never have, diagnosed December 2010, negative for ANA, high titre AMAs. I am not interested, I have PBC and it isn't going to change. I know it's not standard under the NHS apparently as I was informed by hospital consultant.
Every two weeks I get blood drawn - and LFT's are tested - only had the AMA tested once
I also get my bike salts tested 1 time a month
Hi Kiki, I agree with other responders that it's generally not considered useful to re-test AMA. The titre may change, and in fact mine had dropped considerably when it was re-done after 12 yrs had elapsed. Sources seem to agree, however, that there's no correlation between AMA titre and level of disease. It would be nice if we understood this better - an interesting question!
I was diagnosed with PBC in 2007 and my AMA was negative. I've had it check several times since and it has stayed negative. I have blood work (Liver function tests, clotting time and a few more) every 3 months. My labs are within normal limits each time. I also have a MRI or ultra sound with the fibrosis screening alternating every 6 months. I'm on urso since my diagnosis and don't have any problems with my PBC.
