PBC and edible medical marijuana

I have read conflicting reports stating marijuana improves liver conditions and other reports that say it is bad for your liver. I know this is a new frontier (at least in the U.S.) but I have terrible insomnia and the cocktail of medications I am taking has never worked. I am obviously an extremely rare case. I have two sleep disorder doctors and they don't know what to do with me either. It was suggested to me by a marijuana counselor that I might do better with an edible that passes through the liver because an edible stays in your system longer than if you smoke weed. Any thoughts??

Hi suffer from insomnia badly too .

when you say edible marijuana, what do you mean?

I take sleeping pills but they don't seem to work and my doctor is pretty useless,

Have never been referred to a sleep doctor.

Marijuana that is baked into an item. I thought I mentioned that I have TWO sleep doctors who don't know what to do with me. That's why I am trying medical marijuana. It is the only thing left for me! So far it is not working well. Till I find the right combination of CBT and TCH it wil be trial and error.

Edible marijuana , not sure what you mean , do you mean CBD oil ? I have been taking an Indica CBD for 2 years to help with insomnia,,,,,without it I can't sleep. You put it under your tongue you do not eat it ........"Taking CBD oil under your tongue is one the fastest ways to deliver CBD into your system. ... Instead of being broken down by the liver's enzymes, the CBD and other active compounds in the hemp oil more quickly reach the bloodstream where they can stimulate their effects".

Edible marijuana means marijuana that is baked into an item. It is the shake of the plant. It takes longer to act than what can be inhaled but supposedly longer acting. Surprised you are not familar with the term. My dispensary does not carry oil and CBD alone does zilch for me. I need the TCH component say the "experts".

Going to try the oil

Edibles will definitely make you sleep well. More so than smoking it.

Chocolates and Gummy Bears are the most common forms in states where legal.

Edibles are not legal in New Jersey. Remember, my specific question was "do eating edibles negatively affect the liver of those with PBC".

I have the same sleeping issues as well as neuropathy. I use edibles at night to help, the hybrid version. I tried the indica and then the sativa versions they both gave me headaches, they hybrid was perfect. I asked my liver doctor and he said they will not effect your liver except the munchies (for the fatty liver part). 😂😂. He said it affects your brain. But with them I can sleep and can move my hands and elbow in the mornings. (I take a 10mg gummy at night). I live in Illinois and they will be legal in January so right now I get it from a medical dispensary with help. I am going to try for my medical card through another doctor on my next visit. I did notice that smoking it didn’t help me at all.

The cbd oil didn’t help me just made me angry.

Hi, I live just north of the border. Will it be recreational in January? Thanks for your help, as I need to try this also.

One more thing....it takes about an hour and a half to kick in so I take it about 8 and by 10 I’m sleeping like a baby.

Also, my main problem is not necessarily falling asleep. It is staying asleep. I can take THC and be up an hour later. That is on top of taking 4 sleep medications. And no, I do not have sleep apnea. Just a very rare case of insomnia that nothing seems to help so far.

just a thought... and this has probably been looked at, but here goes. How is your thyroid function and/or your female hormones? I know when I started peri-menopause, then officially menopause, sleep became a rumor after about 3-4 hours sleep. Terrible if you have to function the next day. My TCM doctor says that waking at certain times is related to different body systems. Metaphysics has an interesting thought on times of waking too. Just thoughts. Hope you can find some relief.

I have thyroid issues which seem to be under control. My sleeping issues go back many, many years. Last night after consuming marijuana and smoking it I was up for two hours. When I did fall asleep it was for 1 1/2 hours and I did not feel any THC in my system at all even though edibles supposedly stay in the system longer than when inhaled. Will keep trying. I would be happy if I could get a solid 4 hours of quality sleep. AND I meditate daily!!!

Good Morning...I love controversial subjects. Yes, there does seem to be mixed information on the liver and THC as well as, CBD. My first thought is, "how much worse is it that the medications you are taking?" There is a capsule form of THC by Uncle Herbs. They also make a combo THC/CBD. They are a vegetarian capsule that is compounded with coconut oil for rapid absorption. They come in 10 and 25 mg caps. Maybe start with the 10's. The best part of this is that you can put them in the freezer and cut it into smaller pieces. I have used them for awhile and I usually only need 1/4 of a cap to take the edge of pain away, and for sure to sleep. They do take longer to take effect, so for sleep, give it a 3-4 hour window. I have taken it closer to bedtime and awaken with some stellar dreams and meditations. But it is sleep we are after, right? Also, since I have started taking Dr. Mercola's B complex, my sleep is much better. CBD oil, the real stuff, not Hemp oil will help relax the mind and body. I recently started using some in tincture form. So far, my thyroid dosage has decreased, my anxiety is far less, I feel happier and just lighter. So, for me, I don't have to reach for the THC caps nearly as ofter as before the B complex and CBD oil. Hope this helps...you can contact me for more information anytime. Be well....
