Haven't been on here for such a long time with having pain apps etc then they have been changed etc etc. Anyway I have started the itch my back is covered red with spots it is so irritating I thought I would go mad. I saw my G.P who proscribed which is an steroid cream for a week then progress to Balneum Plus Cream which takes the itch away. It worked for awhile then went back had to see a different doc who proscribed an anti histamine tablet fantastic it helps so much its called Fexofenadine Hydrochoride tablets. Once I stop the tablets or should say ran out I went back by this time the doc had rang my consultant and he said I may have to change from the Urso Ive been taking but in the mean time to carry on with the anti histamines until I see consultant next month.

I will be interested on any of you have had the say experience or how your itch has developed.

Best Wishes to you all.

Hello,

Can you function on the histamines? Don't they make you sleepy?

Hi Jude1

Oh how I sympathise with the so called itch of PBC. I was prescribed the anti histamine cetirizine two tablets twice a day which sort of worked for a while and then I was prescribed the fexofenadine but unfortunately I had a bad reaction. I now take cholestyramine, (when that did not fully work) Rifampicin was added (Naltrexone tried but again bad reaction) and lastly 25mg of Sertraline. If it flares then I can take up to 50mg of Sertraline. Currently the remaining "itch" which flares occasionally is tolerable. I try to stick to a diet rich in vegetables, protein, carbs. I avoid sugary foods/drink but when I do indulge then I notice the difference.
