Hi everyone.
I did BMD test yesterday as my vit D was in severe deficiency level. Results was just awful! Osteoporosis in hip and spine, osteopenia in wrist. I didn’t expecting that bad because I’m only 31 y/o. Is there any body with same results?
Hi everyone.

Unfortunately bone growth peaks for females around 20 years old. My mom used to make us drink 3 glasses of milk a day. I continued this habit up to my early 20’s. Then for some reason, I didn’t want to drink milk any more.
The average girl grows the fastest in height between the ages of 11 and 12 years, and stops growing between the ages of 14 and 15 years. About 95% of a young woman's peak bone mass is present by age 20, and some overall gains in mass often continue until age 30.
I have osteopenia & I try to take my calcium supplements when I remember. Walking & strength training also helps to keep our bones strong.
Lack of vitamin D also inhibits calcium absorption. Too much caffeine also leaks calcium from our bones.
Your doctor can guide you regarding how to address this. My hepatologist told me to ask the endocrinologist about this as they are very expert at it.
He prescribed high dose vit D to take once a week. Hope this works😕
You will also need to ensure that your calcium intake is adequate. D alone only helps absorption. If you don't have enough calcium in your diet, D by itself won’t help the bones.
I've gone thru a gastric bypass 10 years ago and have been up and down on a lot of vitamins. I 2013 I was diagnosed with osteopenia and don't take fosamax, just a calcium/Vit d pill 2 a day and 2,000 mgs extra vitamin d a day and have not developed osteoporosis. My bone density tests have been the same as when I was first diagnosed. God bless, Krazy-girl
My brother has an infusion once a year to improve his osteoporosis rather than taking daily supplements - it is apparently much more effective at increasing density.
i was classed as having osteopenia at 36
but was prescribed vit d and calcium... a few years later it had improved and I was back in normal levels...
i understand that this is the milder level that i had but think it is possible to improve it... at least you know and there are things that can be done to help.
worth checking but think some types of exercise can help... depending on what you are able to do,
best wishes cazer
Sorry you have all this so early in your life. I too had osteoporosis and broke several bones. I took a biphosphonate every month for several years and my last Dexa scan showed my osteoporosis is now downgraded to osteopenia which is a step in the right direction. I no longer take the biphosphonate as you can only have them for five years after that they may affect your jaw (can't have that 😀😀). I now take calcium and vitamin D for this. So the message is osteoporosis can be successfully treated so speak to your docs about this. Good luck and let us know how you get on x
Hello my friends...thought I'd share a little this morning. first, getting the diagnosis of osteoporosis is tough. I remember when I heard those words. My first thought was, "not another problem". It really scared me, thinking I would have to be so careful not to fall, trip, etc. I changed my calcium supplements a little while after that diagnosis. See, I do not have a thyroid or parathyroid. Not having the parathyroid, I do not produce my own calcium, or at least not enough for normal functioning. I found a great calcium that each tablet is perfectly balanced with D3 and magnesium. I need 3000 mg calcium daily for a low normal functioning, so these 500 mg tablets were of interest to me. The most intriging
part is that they are a food based product. It is Rainbow Light, best price is on ThriveMarket.com. Anyway, in conjunction with your calcium/D3/Magnesium, I take a Vitamin K supplement to ensure that calcium stay away from my heart. I am no longer in the "porous" stage, but back into "penia" as of last scan. Be well
Sounds very good, so you think I can improve my bone density?
I thought once a patient develops osteoporosis it won’t heal and treatments just could stop it’s progression.
I’m also taking the same Ca supplement as yours, those with mg and vitD, beside high dose vit D (50000 iu weekly).
I believe anything is possible. I would recommend having your D3 and Calcium levels checked to determine if you are taking enough Calcium. I take addition; D3 also. If you look up Dr. Mercola, he has articles about D3 that spurred my additional dosage. The Ca i take by Rainbow Light is 500 mg Ca, 250 mg Mag., 500 IU D3 per tablet. Also contains 20 mg of the following:
Betaine HCI, Stinging Nettle, Horsetail, and spirulina. What i like best is that it can be taken without food which is great for me. Again, I have to take large doses due to no parathyroid, so i also take Vitamin K to help redirect the calcium to where it is suppose to be.
Thank you for all your good sentences and hope you gave me.
Mine is France made, the brand name is CALCI POWER. It contains 500mg Ca, 150mg magnesium, 10mg zinc and 250 IU vitD. The tablet is thin and easy to swallow.
Also high dose vitD brand is D-Vigel (cholecalcifetol 50000IU) in shape of a pearl.
yes, sona... you can improve osteoporosis and mine did and although I still take a calcium /vitd combo I am no longer classed as having a problem.
with pbc we do not absorb the fat soluble vits properly a, e, d, and k... so don't blame yourself...for lack of exercise... but think swimming and walking can help... please don't be too worried.... this is one symptom we can do something about... im 20 years since initial osteopenia... and not crumbling, best wishes cazer. x
