Alcoholic poisoning

Hi,

I have PBC, Scleroderma (which causes the main problems), Sjogrens and Hypothyroidism.

I drink very little alcohol. Last week I went to the pub, and got caught up 'in the moment '. I drank 2 double gin and tonics, which is not really that much in the grand scheme of things, especially when I see what everyone is doing. When I got home I drank some water and tea, and ate something.

The next day I can hardly describe how ill I was. I couldn't move for vomiting and it went on all day. I couldn't talk properly and I was hot and cold with a headache. The next day I was very wobbly. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Maybe because your body is not used having that much alcohol on an empty stomach since you don’t drink much. Sounds like a hang over to me. Be careful.

Looks like something else..may be you need to check your glucose.. except scleroderma I have same thing as you get along with reactive hypoglycemia..I do drink beer or wine moderately meant more than 2 never had that experience like yours

Being hot and cold seems like you may have had a fever, put that with the vomiting it sounds rather like a 24 hr tummy bug rather than the alcohol.

Unlikely that it was the alcohol, the reaction would've been much quicker. More likely a virus.

It was definitely the alcohol. It's not the first time it's happened although that was years ago.

Alcohol is difficult for a healthy liver to process, never mind one compromised by PBC. I was told to avoid alcohol....maybe 1 glass of wine a MONTH. Before I was diagnosed I had a similar experience. I believe it was my poor liver screaming for help. 😉You may want to avoid alcohol, especially the harder spirits.

The definition of insanity is repeating the same thing expecting a different result. It's like we forget that we are not normal and want to enjoy the banquet that life offers. Newsflash...we are different, we cannot tolerate all the wonderful things available to the general public. Hope you feel better and are able to give up all alcohol so you do not have to torture your body again

Thank you. Things are difficult as I cannot eat certain foods, as the Sjogrens in my mouth has cracked my tongue, and the scleroderma has given me slow gut mobility. Sometimes you just want to join in! I do go for months without drinking at times.

Oh girl...I'm so sorry to hear you are having such a rough time right now. I too want to be a normal girl. Life is a challenge for us. Do your best to stay calm. I am limited in what I can eat and drink. Physically limited too. Now my post Cancer thyroid meds are messed up. On my way to chat with doc right now. Some says are definitely better than others. Take care

Just a thought but any possibility you could have had a bacterial food poisoning?. Your getting so ill the next day rather than it starting a few hours after drinking makes me wonder. Hope you're feeling better now!

I feel drunk almost straight away after first 2 drinks then the rest of the night I'm ok but the next day I feel like I've been hit by a bus, swollen stomach, don't want to eat anything, still a bit dodgy the next day too

Yes I'm just like that I felt really drunk after 2 drinks then felt awful the next day, I read somewhere that you get drunk so quick because your liver is unable to deal with it.

I'm not so much drunk, it's the after effects. I don't want to go mad just have a couple of drinks on a night out!
