Nausea
Sorry to hear that Pamela. Suggest you ask your doctor if possible or contact the Pbc Foundation who may be able to suggest something. Good luck. PS you get more response if you post on this site during the week rather than weekends 😊
Hi Pamela4475
I would ask the doctor about the nausea but in the meantime - what time of day do you take your URSO (if that is what is making you nauseous). I have found it best to take with my evening meal, usually around 6.30 p.m. My labs are usually quite good, just a little elevated but I am an itcher and am now medicated by the hepatologist for that. Whilst waiting for some help with the itch, when I first started and was waiting for the specialist the GP prescribed 2 cetirizine twice a day - it worked for a while.
A cool bath or use of ice can help with the so called itch of PBC. I also use a 2 percent menthol cream prescribed by the doctor. I also used Omeprazole when my tummy was really playing up but I have managed to get off them now.
hope this is of some help
Pam, I have the nausea too. I think it's the Urso because I never had it before the diagnosis and my labs have greatly improved. Let us know what you find out.
Pam
There are 3 aspects of PBC: symptoms, liver biochemistry (tests, bloods, LFTs) and liver histology (level of cell change within the liver).
All three are separate. All three need to be monitored.
This means that managing PBC comes into 2 parts: disease management (biochemistry and histology) and symptom management (itch, fatigue, nausea, etc).
It also means that severity of symptoms has nothing to do with biochemistry levels.
Your clinician should be managing both, with active engagement from you.
Urso is best tolerated when taken with food.
I went to a PBC conference (PBCers.org) in Houston this weekend. You might want to consider attending one. It was very very helpful. I did learn that the severity of your itching doesn't correlate to the severity of the disease
I keep getting itching worse than when I was drinking I ain't got clue as well
I find if I eat things that are hard to digest, very high grease content, too much sugar, or just too big of a meals I get nauseous and I stay that way for awhile. I think anything in your life, diet, stress etc that inflames the liver will cause nausea and the itch. Now I am very lucky that I haven't had the itch. My ALP has started to go up, and I think mainly because of some of my other meds I have to take for other things I have. Lots of other good suggestions here too. URSO never has given me nausea. But it does with some people
