PBC and the gallbladder

Is there any relationship between PBC and the gallbladder? I have read a lot about PBC and do not see anything about the gallbladder. I ask because at 17 my gallbladder was infected and filled with stones. Everyone said it was very unusual for a 17-year-olds gallbladder to need to be removed.

I believe there is. I had all normal blood work weeks before having mine removed as well as the same day I had surgery. When I went back for my 30 day checkup, my liver enzymes were elevated for the first time in my life. They only continued to get worse from there. Everything I ever read stated "Do not get your gallbladder removed as it goes into liver problem." My doctor told me "You can live without your gallbladder" and I knew God gave it to us for a reason and procrastinated removal until the pain was no longer bearable. Anyway, that is my take on it and I truly regret having it removed. Wish I could have it back.

I'd never had any problem with my gall bladder, I have PBC diagnosed 8 years ago.

However 3 yeas ago the scan I had showed one small gallstone, which seemed a little odd since urso is given for gallstones and I'd been taking it for 5 years and had annual scans so knew it was clear.

Hi Dwaffle16

My story is much the same as Hidden , No problems with the gall bladder, diagnosed 11 years and after a scan I have been told I have one gallstone. I wonder how many might have been found were it not for the URSO.

I believe it can be linked to PBC . I believe the PBC can cause Gall stones . So I was told. Best to check eith hepatologist . I had mine removed as I had quite a few small gall stones . It needed to come out

I have PBC and had my gall bladder removed 18 years ago; I was diagnosed with PBC almost 7 years ago after suffering a mild heart attack caused by another autoimmune condition called APS.

I had my gallbladder removed at 19. My GI, at that time, said that it just stopped doing what it was made for.

Stay strong❣️

From all the comments on here.... it sure sounds like pbc affects the gallbladder (or might be the other way around) .. I'm wondering if my dad had pbc. He kept getting gallstones and dr couldn't figure out why
