Sachin1234,

I heard about that on the news. So sad. This seasons flu sounds terrible. I also heard the flu shot this year wasn't as effective as they hoped it would be. Still, better safe than sorry. 👍

Yeah, looks like it will be different strain of flu this year. If you have taken a flu shot still it will helps fight better so the risk of dying is minimum 👍🏼

I get flu shot every year

in reply to Ballymahon2

I get it every year too except for one year when they had a shortage. Didn't want to take one from the elderly or someone who needs it more.

I've not read the link and have no intentions of doing so. My computer won't open certain links anyway and I go via other routes off the info but in this case, I'll pass. Having not read the article I presume the person in the article had PBC? If not then what has it got to do with having PBC?

As I was raised and see it, I'd rather just not take notice of certain things. No I've not had any flu vaccinations in my life as yet and have no intentions in doing so. I've never really been one for having colds in my life and I thought when offered the yr following PBC diagnosis why rock the boat in having one. After all I don't fancy chemicals that are in these vaccinations. I believe mercury is present in this season's ones in the UK due to them being a vaccine that is comprised of 4 strains.

In my late gran's day back when she was growing up in the 1920s certain health issues were a problem annually, especially in the UK winters. She had a few siblings die of health problems that we can these days more often than not overcome due to modern medicine. But back then being poor and in damp homes and majority having jobs that decades later were said to cause certain ill health, little wonder really.

According to FDA & CDC, the single dose vaccine is not supposed to contain mercury. Multi dose vials do, to help protect against contamination.

In the UK the flu vaccine this season is what would be considered a multi dose, there are 4 strains in one vaccine from what I read from my GP surgery as in the UK GP surgeries were requesting their patients have the flu jab at the surgery as opposed to a pharmacy as it is said that some pharmacies are using a flu vaccine with just 3 strains.

Oh that’s not what I meant peridot. When I said single dose, I was referring to the packaged syringe that already has the vaccine measured out. The multidose vial would be a vial which they would repeatedly draw the vaccine out of it. I did take the “quad” & always do unless they run out. 😊

Not sure how the vaccines come these days. When I did once work in a medical environment (not a medic I have to say but the practice had medics and admin staff whilst I was working), noticed vaccines came ready to use with the vaccine in the syringe vial. Not sure how these quad ones work but I am sure a patient only has the one vaccine with the ready mixed vaccine inside. You can easily check the patient info leaflets online these days if you know what you are bring given as in pharma/brand, the ingredients are usually listed. I think I am right in saying that some or maybe all/more (?) have formaldehyde in them. quite rightly so minute doses but in mind a minute is too much.

I suppose I can say this because I've never been prone to colds and can't really recall flu if I've had at some point pre leaving home aged 18.

My daughter got herself through pneumonia 2 years ago. She wasn't aware that is what she had when she fell ill and ended up seeing a doctor 10 days later. It was the doctor who said she had pneumonia.

I get the flu shot cos i got pneumonia 7 years ago and now with pbc i want to avoid meds as much as possible esp antibiotics its a personal thing some people get the flu shot others dont

in reply to Ballymahon2

Yes I agree with you, it is personal choice. I do think though that by having certain vaccines that in itself can perhaps play havoc with the immune system.

I don't trust doctors and have good reason to (my former late husband had developed Addison's Disease (it's where your adrenal glands shut down) and it was myself who read in library books certain things (he took steroids for the last 2yrs of his life and I noticed he was developing certain health issues after the short courses ended). I mentioned to the hospital doctor and it was somehow shrugged off and after his death and a post-mortem he was in fact said to have Addison's Disease.

I do see things differently from others at times and regarding flu vaccinations I will presently and whilst I am in control refuse one.

peridot...I know several people who will not take flu shot. I had taken it for years & I didn’t take it in 2005 & I got a full blown case of Type A flu. I have never been so sick in my life. Thought I might die & didn’t care if I did. I for one, will do anything possible to avoid getting it again. Our immune systems are so compromised with PBC making us more susceptible to illnesses. I am now getting paranoid of going into crowds with the flu kicking up the way it is. I wish you well. 😊

In US, flu shots are like a given. My primary doctor sends a reminder email to go in for it & you can get it done at any pharmacy. They even offer it free of charge at our Medical dept at work. It is the norm in corporate America as they don't want staff to be sick & lose productivity. I know lots of people who opt out of flu shots. It is a personal choice.

Having said that if you have a chronic condition or compromised immune system, it is best to get a shot.

I still drink so minimum mercury is nothing for me..we all pbcer know that our immune system is not strong like any other normal Pearson so we need to be up-to date with all kind of immunization.

The mercury they mix in flu is very minimal should not harm our liver as we think
